This is a bad idea. If you re-encode your MP3s then they will be lower quality than they were before. If you want a gap between each song then you should find a way to add time between songs when you play them. Making a playlist with a 4 second silence clip between every song would work.

Quick question, why would you need to do this? Especially when there are non-destructive methods as people have already suggested.

And when you re-encode a lossy file (ie. mp3, usually called transcoding) it will make the quality considerably worse because it's compressing an already compressed file. Nobody wants a transcoded music file unless it's lossless. However, I'm sure there are methods to do what you want without transcoding, though I'm not certain.
