ninjamunky
While I understand it was the first gold for his country (ever... I think) there was really no reason for all the showboating afterward. And even during the race when he threw out his arms before even hit the finish line. The guy from Trinidad and Tobago was doing stuff like that too, and quite ironically, the American guy wasn't doing anything like that. Regardless though, it was a pretty amazing race. +John. Subscriber¹ Posted August 17, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted August 17, 2008 WHAT... Talk about misinformation Last olympics Jamaica won 2 gols 1 silver and 2 bronzes. It's the first gold in that particular event, AFAIK. I agree :p It seems a shame that he slowed down, but it was a good race nonetheless. .Kompressor
Jamaica sweeps in the women 100 meters a few minutes ago. 3 girls take all medals. except it's the first time in olympic history to get 1 gold and 2 silvers because they tied.. down to the hundredths lol the men's 200 m FINAL is on wednesday. And what some people probably don't realize is that alot of the Canadian runners are Jamaicans who have migrated and represent Canada in the past Olympics too. so I'd say they do produce "Sprinters" Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/658204-worlds-fastest-man-race-starts-in-30-minutes/page/2/#findComment-589662372 Share on other sites

They don't have that in Jamaica. DrunkenMaster
Its been like that for the last 50 years with jamaciabesides, i consider the 400m winner the fastest man. The thing is, they're all really specialized. You could also say the 1000 Meter, 5 k or 10 k. It depends on how you define fast. "Africans"/Blacks have the advantage in the shorter distances since they have genetically more fast twitch muscle fiber. In the longer distances it should matter technically. You do find that people *from* Africa do really well, not because of height or muscle, but because their bodies are accomodated to running so much. For us its SPORT. To them its LIFE. Doli
Its been like that for the last 50 years with jamaciabesides, i consider the 400m winner the fastest man. The 400m is my event but fastest goes to 100m/200m unless you have 400m runner who has a faster top speed. DrunkenMaster, not many good sprinters are from Africa they have better distance runners. Doli
Slowing down allows him to break the record again and make even more money, so it was a smart move. Ayepecks
If you're referring to the 100, try nbcolympics.com -- you'll need Microsoft Silverlight installed though (it'll give you the option there). If you mean the 200 race, it'll be on in the U.S. later tonight so I'm sure it'll show up on nbcolympics.com soon. Try searching Youtube.com for "Usain Bolt" and sort by the date to give you the most recent results. Doli
Just saw the 200m, man I would like to see what Bolt can do in the 4x400m if they let him run in that relay. Can wait for Track next year it going to be that "Try to bring the record back to America" stuff I heard before from some athletes. In my opinion (and many other people too, but are afraid to say it), but the reason so many good athletes come from America and Caribbean countries such as Jamaica, has a LOT to do with the slave trade. You have to think 150-200 years ago they were treated as animals, and breed like animals, its harsh to say, but it is true. The genetics were narrowed down to produce a physically superior animal, just as you would do with any horse, cow, chicken or crop. A slave owner would not spend their money on a weak frail individual, they would choose the powerful and healthy one. If anyone finds that offensive, then sorry, i didn?t write history.
