Elliot B.
Does the Steam version of Blue Shift contain the high definition pack? I found http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=p...amp;id=438&. Does that activate it for Blue Shift too?

Kushan
Remember that at the time, "high-def" had an entirely different meaning.
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted August 16, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted August 16, 2008 Did you play before and after installing the update listed? It is exactly the same as the one listed in the official forums ... http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/show...ad.php?t=330176 I tried it ages ago and there was a very noticable difference between SD and the HD pack. I even dug up my old Blue Shift CD to check as that had the HD pack on it too, and it was the same, a vast improvement over the original.
Elliot B.
I have attached two screenshots. Can you tell if I am using the HD pack?

The_Decryptor Veteran Posted August 17, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 17, 2008 I think enabling the HD pack breaks addon mods. Either way, it's buggy and there are 3rd party recreations that don't break mods and fix the bugs This patch (Not the one in mentioned in the previous paragraph, there are multiple patches) fixes some bugs, and makes it use the latest available GoldSrc engine (apparently Blue Shift on steam uses an older version without bug fixes) http://www.hl-improvement.com/downloads.php Edit: Here's the HD pack I meant, http://www.fileplanet.com/167145/160000/fi...-Pack-for-Steam Edit 2: Just noticed in your screenshots that the HUD is orange, it should be Blue in Blue Shift :p
Ayepecks
The Steam versions include HD packs, yes.
quanta
Yes, the Steam version of Half-Life includes Blue Shift and the HD pack for free. Note however that the HD pack only introduced a handful of higher-polygon models of the scientists and weapons. The most obvious change is that the original MP5 type machine gun carried by the soldiers and yourself was replaced by a higher-poly M4 carbine (aka the rifle the CTs use in Counter-strike). Smigit
The easiest way to know is the HD pack updates the model of the MP5 to an assault rifle. As per game spots review All weapons are likewise reused again, and further some of the original weapons (such as the rocket launcher and crossbow) are omitted, meaning there is actually a smaller collection of weaponry to choose from. One of the only things which helps to make Blue Shift somewhat worthwhile is the inclusion of the High Definition Pack. This updates all of the character models with a greater polygon count, and also changes their look significantly, most notably on the HECU soldiers, so it is debatable which looks better. All of the weapon models have also been altered, such as changing the MP5 submachine gun to a M4 Carbine rifle. However, as none of this alters gameplay in anyway, the changes are entirely superficial.GameSpot
