Pidgin 2.5

Recommended Posts

So now Pidgin is better than MSN for Mac in every way :/

This is a great update :D

wecam/mic support? Not that I use it, but some people do...

Except that Pidgin does not force users to have an account just to use their IM protocols. You have to log into Digsby servers just to then connect to your AIM MSN YIM ICQ, and so on.

as far as I know it does not support webcam. it didn't in the last release and it's not listed in the log. that is the only reason I am not using it yet.

How about adding a feature someone gives a **** about instead of this smiley crap... like webcam support. Its the only reason I don't use it on windows. The fact there still isn't a good messenger in Linux that supports webcams simple boggles the mind.

I hope Arch's devs update Pidgin ASAP. I also hope that MSNP15 would be well implemented - when I tried it from monotone, it was a no-go.

I updated but i lost all my contacts icons.

They are no longer appearing on the right side of my contract list.

Anyone know what's wrong?

Would be nice if there is an Pidgin Forum somewhere for user to user support.

Mine took about 30 minutes to come back slowly after I loaded this build.

But do file transfers work? I unfortunately keep having to ask about Pidgin, Miranda, and Digsby too. I would loveee to switch to any of them as my full time messenger, but am forced to stay with official clients because I use file transfers often, and they barely work, or slowww if they do, on third party messengers.

They are working on it - slowly - there's more info here but I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

According to their FAQ:

Why are file transfers so slow?

MSN file transfer support is limited to the proxied version of file transfer support in the protocol. This means that the files are sent to MSN's servers, then the server sends the data to the other user. We don't know if or when we will ever support any of the peer-to-peer file transfer methods available in the MSN protocol.

That combined with no mention of P2P-file transfers in the release notes leads me to believe it's not in yet, sadly. I haven't tested myself yet though.

What's so special to MSNP15?

Pidgin only supported a old protocol version that was limited in features, this new protocol support brings it fairly up to date, and allows more features like status messages to work.

I'm just glad people will finally realise when I'm sleeping (instead of thinking the auto-responded is lying to them)

Um have you heard of amsn, Kopete or Galaxium? They all have webcam support and are good clients.

really like this version. its simple and nice looking.

as for the contact icons, that's the only thing that's bothering me, they only seem to come up if the contact gets online, so a lot of them are still without one until he/she gets online.
