Realtek (and I believe some other cards too) have a speaker fill option in sound properties which will make almost all programs use 5 speakers instead of two. At first run it outputted only to two speakers, but after a change of settings to use "Speakers" as sound device and not Realtek's "Digital Output", it outputted to all the speakers. Nice little thingy, if you don't want to use the "Speaker Fill" option on all sound sources like me (I prefer the crappy YouTube videos in stereo).
