splicer707
Can't resist installing this. Could IE8 make me not want to install Firefox anymore? I have to wait and see.
George P Global Moderator Posted August 27, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted August 27, 2008 Just updated, and so far the websites I visit every day are working fine in native IE8 mode. Only 1 seems to have a small issue but nothing major enough to force me to switch it over to compatibility mode. And on that note I love the fact I can switch in and out of IE7 mode without a restart now. Good stuff so far.
splicer707
I am finding it difficult to believe this is IE. Lots of fine improvements. Now how do I color my tabs?
SVG Veteran Posted August 27, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 27, 2008 Gotta love the address bar.. Best feature ever
ApostolicFire
hmmm... the biggest thing I hate about this version is that when you start to type in a web address, you can't hit tab to just go to the website you want to go to. For example, if i type in "neo" in the address bar, I can't just hit tab and enter to go to this website. I have to either, 1) type in the address completely (which sucks for really long links), 2) press the down key, or 3) use my mouse and click on it. That is the biggest reason why I don't like using Opera, because it works that way, too.
splicer707
Gotta love the address bar.. Best feature ever (Y) At last the address bar searches my favorites. This is one thing that I loved in Firefox and didn't have in IE7.
EduardValencia
does anyone know how to colour tabs?
Slimy
Tabs are automatically coloured when you open up links in new tabs.

EduardValencia
Oh well it fails the new acid test miserably! Try for yourself here...What a shock! Full acid 3 test support or GREAT acid 3 support isn't the objective in IE8 (only a few instances will be supported),this was previously announced,so stop bitching like a baby, this browser at least passes the Acid 2 test,a great improvement over previous version. Go cry somewhere else
:: Lyon ::
If you answered yes to both questions, you will be able to install Internet Explorer 8 Beta2, but once installed, you will not be able to uninstall either IE8 or Windows XP SP3 later. The Setup Wizard will warn you prior to installation: What's up with that? O_o I guess it's still ok to install this on my XP SP3 (I don't think I want to uninstall IE8 or XP SP3 in the future) :)

redfish
Coloring tabs does a good job, but I think its kind of a hackish way to accomplish it. Generally, I think they still haven't done enough to clean up the interface, it still looks like there are too many menu items, the activities (accelerators) and web slices are awkward to get to, and the buttons being crowded on the right side of the tabs still is a bit messy. Doli
I found a bug. I have three home page tabs and when I click down arrow next to the home icon the first selection doesnt work for me. Im looking right now to report this.
splicer707
So is there anyplace to report bugs? I have a problem with gmail. I check my personal account, log out and want to check my secondary account but IE keeps on remembering my original personal account username and clicking on 'Sign in as a different user' just does not work right. With the color tabs. I would like to set what range of colors to use. That would be great.
simsie
Couple faults on my site: In Javascript window.innerHeight is undefined, whereas in Firefox/Opera it comes back with a value. In layout: It's missing a virtual align that IE7/FF3/Opera obey. Apart from that it's a good release. Keep up the good work Microsoft! Wait, it seems if I push ALT it fixes itself... redfish
I think a less hackish way to do tab grouping is just alternate two colors between tabs so it goes light color tabs to dark color tabs to light color tabs. As it is now, the colors are just random.
jmc777
The 'Preserve favourite website data' option in 'Delete Browsing History' is a nice idea.
MMaster23
All has been great so far .. however some Google searchresultpages are acting up, youtube predictive searchbox acts funky and ebay can't search unless in compat mode
splicer707
Smooth scrolling is not really smooth at all. But this is nitpicking, overall a solid product.
+Elі Subscriber² Posted August 28, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted August 28, 2008 So far so good, it's being a little slower for me than IE7 but all the new features makes it worthy.
CommanderRomeo
Stupid question : If I check "delete history on exit" and then go to delete history and check all the boxes, will it delete all of the things I've checked when I exit the brower ? how does "preserve fav website data" work ? does this mean all the sites I've added to me fav's and it will keep the usernames/passwords ?? splicer707
The insanity with saving a jpg file and IE telling me it's a bmp is still a problem. Open and Right Click - Save Picture As Now it worked, like it should have. Odd.
LOC Veteran Posted August 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2008 I have Beta 1 installed, and with Beta 2 you must uninstall B1 before installing it. Thing is, I have (apparently) no way of uninstalling B1...it isn't anywhere that I can find! Ugh. I'm on Vista 64 btw. Odd.
