maash
go to start, run and put the following and press enter netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled this is especially helpful on the error 81000306 you might get when trying to sign in to live messenger this works for XP SP3 and Vista. maash
Would help to know what this does and why it works... if it even does. Windows Vista and XP SP3 introduced a new feature called auto tuning which continually adjusts the Receive Window size based on the network conditions. This has caused some problems with some windows apps specifically time out issues Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/667936-tip-when-you-cannot-sign-on-to-windows-live-messenger/#findComment-589769642 Share on other sites

soldier1st
i doubt autotuning would cause any problems.maybe on ancient hardware but if that is the case you should not be running vista or ancient hardware. carmatic
what is the default setting of this autotuning thing? is it just 'enabled' or is it some number or something else? former1
If the variable in this case is disabled, I assume it would be enabled... if not enable *shrug* if that fails try 1 :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/667936-tip-when-you-cannot-sign-on-to-windows-live-messenger/#findComment-589788654 Share on other sites
carmatic
is this 'netsh' command vista-only? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/667936-tip-when-you-cannot-sign-on-to-windows-live-messenger/#findComment-589817668 Share on other sites
carmatic
is this 'netsh' command vista-only? sorry im a noob... in my xp sp3, i can run netsh, and i can get netsh int , like the 'netsh interface context', but typing 'tcp' when it is in that context makes it say 'the following command was not found'... so all that "set global autotuninglevel=disabled" stuff isnt gonna work Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/667936-tip-when-you-cannot-sign-on-to-windows-live-messenger/#findComment-589818228 Share on other sites
xpgeek
I thought the auto tuning thing was only in Vista and not XP, didn't know SP3 added that. TakeNothingBack
Probably a good place to drop this. It's a Messenger Error Fixer, does a few .dll fixes depending on the error you choose from the list of fixes it offers. It's a few years old and from memory it's from mess.be.
