ark_mage2
(I am posting this here because it deals with the UI experience in Windows Vista.) After months of work and much anticipation I am pleased to announce the release of Longhorn Explorer beta 2! For the uninitiated Longhorn Explorer is a file browsing application designed to recreate the look feel and function of the explorer that was going to be part of Windows Longhorn. Features: * General file browsing capabilities * Animated PPA * Longhorn style "flying icons" on resize and filter. * live image thumbnails * drag and drop * Document Library (with stacks!) * Music Library * Contact Library (Facebook only) * much more! Screenshot More info and download link at my blog Enjoy! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/673244-longhorn-explorer-beta-2/ Share on other sites

Denis W. Veteran Posted September 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 25, 2008 It requires .NET 3.5 SP1. It also crashed on my desktop. The installer seems to fetch the non-SP1 version. I'll be trying this on my desktop in a second, after updating .NET. Denis W. Veteran Posted September 27, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 27, 2008 - Nice animations! - Crashes when deleting something that requires admin privileges. - Also crashes if I try any file functions on Facebook contacts. :p (BTW the contacts are all in random order.) - I re-enter my Pictures folder, go back up one level, re-enter, and it crashes. Still looks promising though. Keep working on it. Question: Does it install itself to somewhere? I don't see any app icons in the Start menu. zhangm Supervisor Posted March 23, 2020 Supervisor Share Posted March 23, 2020 Yikes - over a decade ago! It's a long shot, but here's the Wayback Machine archive of that page. https://web.archive.org/web/20080927054713/http://arkmage2.longhornfusion.net/blog/?p=49 If you follow the projects link, the author has an email address - maybe you could get ahold of them and they still have the files around? waysidesc 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/673244-longhorn-explorer-beta-2/#findComment-598532374 Share on other sites
