MSI Announces Wind 2, Says Customers Hate Linux

Recommended Posts

I have this conversation all the time with my friend...

Him: Normal people don't want Linux on their netbooks, they want Windows.

Me: Oh they want Linux, they just don't know it yet.

Regular people go ape **** when you take away Office 2003 from them and give them Office 2007. end-users don't like to learn and get totally lost when things were only slightly changed.

That is precisely why I questioned the distribution choice for the original Wind. Ubuntu (either Gutsy Gibbon or the current Hardy Heron, or even olde reliable Feisty Fawn) would have made more sense, as it requires little fiddling, is supremely small, and is actually designed for non-techies.

Vanilla Ubuntu is optimized for desktop hardware, and has all the requirements of a desktop OS.

You'd basically be taking away all the practical advantages that comes with not running Windows.

Or just freak out because it wasn't XP/Windows.

or just freak out b/c they didnt know another OS existed. a couple times here at work i'll be messing with OpenSuse and someone walks up and says w/ a gasp: "What's that!?" i say, "it's Linux", and theyre like "What's that!?" So i say "it's another OS." and they say "What's that!?"

the cycle continues :p

and that why they are scared from something called VISTA

V.I.S.T.A. = victory , intelligent , sense ,tween(win7) , Anti virus :laugh:

The average family doesn't know very much about PC's, but they default to Windows, because they know how to use it.

Debatable at least.

They do recognize it, which makes them feel a bit more comfortable. Yet they keep doing the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

This.

Ages ago I was dual booting Ubuntu and XP on my computer, one night I left it in Ubuntu and went to bed. The next morning I come down and my mother's using the computer to check eBay and such, the only difference she noted was that "the icons moved to the top of the screen".

People use Windows because they feel comfortable with it, Of course that doesn't mean they know how to use it.

oh, the same old "I know what you want better than you do" argument.

really, in the end people return the Linux boxes, keep the Windows ones, and that's what matters.

The Current MSI Wind has a serious issue with its battery, it runs out of power in no time.

They need to ship it with a 6 cell battery, and have an 8 cell battery as an optional accessory!
