Denholm
This is a surprise. I mean, Vista is working so flawlessly for me I can't imagine why 'SP2' is needed. Raa
Well well! Getting there ;) Can't wait TBH. Hopefully some big improvements to be had in SP2. Little surprised that they're doing a SP for both Server & Client in the one move, but that's still welcome (Y) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/681598-windows-vista-sp2-is-coming/#findComment-589958282 Share on other sites
darren89
wow, i'm surprised too. that's quite fast. hopefully there are great features besides higher security in it. :) hope the wait is worthwhile. Gary2MBz
Hopefully they remove the "Turn off UAC" option ut instead set it up as in Windows 7 Milestone 3. BTW were still missing Ultimate Extras...Tinker and the sounds won't cut it. Put some new visual styles at least. Oops I'm going off topic now. I see no need for an SP2 yet let alone they announce XP SP4 with it. petroid
They both come at the same time because they both share a majority of components ;). jamesclarke555
Little surprised that they're doing a SP for both Server & Client in the one move, but that's still welcome (Y) Why? They did it with SP1, remember that they share the same kernel ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/681598-windows-vista-sp2-is-coming/#findComment-589958306 Share on other sites
Dick Montage
Why are people talking about features? Service Packs are not meant to be feature rich, they are meant to be a roll-up of individually released fixes. pixated
SP2 is what made XP a good OS, hopefully it improves UAC a bit. I've only recently switched to Vista (after some 10 or so attempts every few months) when I was satisfied enough with the system itself and driver availability/stability/maturity and it's working quite okay now. XP still has better performance, but the difference is not as large as it used to be and is down to acceptable levels of a newer OS now. Looking forward to it. capr
i personally never upgraded my vista machine to sp1 because when i tried it it ruined the installation and i had to use the rescue disk... I am kinda hopping for vista sp2 to be like xp sp2 and really improve on what's missing and what people are having troubles with... Olemus
I could have sworn someone posted about this article lastnight and got a slap in the face by members telling them it was just an article meaning nothing. DrCheese
This is a surprise. I mean, Vista is working so flawlessly for me I can't imagine why 'SP2' is needed. SP's are really just to make it easier for IT support/System Installers to deploy new machines without having to install 1000's of updates. It's also handy as it includes the hotfix's that MS don't release publicly, rather you have to call them for access to them. If you ask me, It's something that MS should do yearly anyway, It got really stupid towards the end of SP2 on XP, you'd have well over 150 updates to install on a fresh SP2 machine. zhangm Supervisor Posted October 13, 2008 Supervisor Share Posted October 13, 2008 I expect SP2 to be just an installer for all the hotfixes released to date. Typhon
Yeah, I think so too. It should just be a collection of hotfixes. I am thinking DX 11,WMP 12, Windows FS? I do not know could be all of that plus some new hotfixes for dual and quad core chips. bigmehdi
explorer crash more often in Vista than in XP... I hope the SP2 will fix that. I guess there's new anti-piracy measures with SP2. +Warwagon MVC Posted October 13, 2008 MVC Share Posted October 13, 2008 SP2 is what made XP a good OS People always say that but I used XP Since RC2 and I found XP to be a great OS even before Sp1 and certainly after Sp1 but to me Sp2 made XP no better than it already was at the time.
