Windows Vista SP2 is coming...

People always say that but I used XP Since RC2 and I found XP to be a great OS even before Sp1 and certainly after Sp1 but to me Sp2 made XP no better than it already was at the time.

I agree with you, but what people don't get is that service packs are basically fix under the hood and securities updates, nothing more than that. You can't see it with the naked eyes.

I mostly agree. XP was always a great OS straight from RTM but one thing that SP2 greatly improved was its wireless networking interface and functionality. I deal with quite a few wireless XP machines and SP2 sure made the wireless aspect of those machines much more stable and easier for end users to configure.

I'll agree with ya on that one

Yup, been saying this for ages. SP2 for XP was an oddball, SP1 for Vistal also (to a lesser extent). Nowhere near as bad as NT4's "Option Pack"...

Service Packs should just be roll-up hotfixes.

I could have sworn someone posted about this article lastnight and got a slap in the face by members telling them it was just an article meaning nothing. How fickle neowin can be nowadays.

Yep, right here:

I am thinking DX 11,WMP 12, Windows FS? I do not know could be all of that plus some new hotfixes for dual and quad core chips.

This is getting annoying, someone who knows about what happened to WinFS etc should make a topic about it and sticky it somewhere, I'm getting tired of WinFS being mentioned whenever Windows 7 or Vista topics pop up, it's dead.

i personally never upgraded my vista machine to sp1 because when i tried it it ruined the installation and i had to use the rescue disk...

I am kinda hopping for vista sp2 to be like xp sp2 and really improve on what's missing and what people are having troubles with...

SP2 is what made XP a good OS, hopefully it improves UAC a bit. I've only recently switched to Vista (after some 10 or so attempts every few months) when I was satisfied enough with the system itself and driver availability/stability/maturity and it's working quite okay now. XP still has better performance, but the difference is not as large as it used to be and is down to acceptable levels of a newer OS now.

Looking forward to it.

XP SP2 was a unique occurance. Service Packs have usually been a collection of all fixes since the last service pack and a few new fixes, not adding new features. So you won't see anything new from Windows "7" in there.

Moreover, I bet half these people have no idea what it was, how it would benefit them, and just still will claim "It's a new filesystem"...

These people should just join technet and try it out themselves. technet stil lhas the beta of winfs for download.

A lot of the posts I've seen is that people believed it was a replacement for 'NTFS'. *sighs*

XP SP2 spoiled me. I wish more Service Packs were like it.

True, but that's because XP truly sucked pre-SP2, unlike Vista. The latter didn't have any major security exploits upon release like the former did.

+1

yes

it is not like NTFS is broken or anything

FAT32 is that why it got replaced by NTFS

Honestly, with Windows 7 so close, I see Vista SP2 as a roll-up service pack, to be honest. Much like XP SP3, it will likely roll up updates and add a couple of minor features (and maybe fix some bugs). Just my two cents... ^_^
