GTA IV for PC (official)

Recommended Posts

I have everything maxed out at 1920x1200 but I left the sliders on default. I don't exactly remember the values but I know the first option (view distance?) was set to 23 and so on. Traffic density was set to 30 something. I got 19-30 fps. I uploaded a screenshot a few posts before. The youtube video I posted before is an older version of the laptop I have (in my sig) and it got 14-20 fps but he maxed out traffic.

Note: It's VERY important to have a 1GB video card. GTA IV stated it would use around 900MB out of 1GB that was available.

Yeah my card is 512mb. I personally find anything below 30 fps unplayable though. I get around 50 fps right now which is nice. I am able to set my sliders much higher though which makes it look a lot better, especially view and detail distance which I have around 50 I think. By default everything looks crappy thats not right in front of you :)

Textures on medium dont look a whole lot different than high though and it looks hella lot better than the 360 version especially with the view distance way higher and definition on.

I had a 256MB 8600GT and got around 10 fps no matter what my settings were. I upgraded to a 896MB GTX 260 and I still get about 15-20 fps, 20-30 if I turn shadows off completely.

My processor is a C2D E6300 1.86GHz, so I guess I should be happy it's running decently, at least. I have to have textures on Low or else it constantly stutters horribly.

I'd upgrade the cpu but the motherboard on this HP pc won't take anything better than what it has now pretty much. I can run all other games maxed out though, so not a complete loss.

ur cpu clock is too low..

1.8Ghz????

and i wana ask something

cant u get any AA on this game???

the edges look horrible without AA..

ill turn on AA if i have to reduce texture detail and shadow to medium even.

What they have in place of real AA is the "Definition" toggle. It adds an odd filter that sort of smears and blurs the picture, which removes the jaggies (for the most part) and gives GTA4 its unique look. It also adds motion blur. There are tweaks available to change how Definition works: http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=5691

All dialog and sound effects are from Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV. The 1967 Spider Man cartoon was used for the video, the episode having the same title as this video. When I was about 15, we had a Fisher VCR that let you plug in a microphone and flip a switch on the front to enable a second audio track. My friends and I had loads of fun dubbing our voices over cartoons on Saturdays! This episode was a fondly remembered gem, so I naturally started with it now that I have the technology to do it properly!

This is more than a standard cartoon dub! It's a complete re-creation of an episode using a fantastic podcast we found containing all of the original KPM masters. All the music is restored to remove the muddy sound. The new storyline is as coherent as possible using GTAIV speech samples, which were meticulously spliced in to match the video. We think it turned out fantastic!

the new patch is out now if you login into live. there's definite improvements -especially on the shadows. they look much, much better. and it feels smoother overall although i've only had a quick blast driving around for 5 minutes.

Fantastic update, the shadows still look horrible yet the game has been rendered unplayable on mine and I'm not talking low FPS, talking extremely sluggish and delayed controls, massive freezes and micro-stutters

and the FPS isn't going above 10 when outside. Something went ###### up here ...

EDIT: Oh nevermind, you just have to restart the game every time you mess with settings, especially the new shadow settings - Tweak those and keep playing, you're in a world of trouble

Apparently with the new patch, to prevent hacking in multiplayer they've encrypted all the game files.

Preventing any customisation and modding in single player.

Can anyone else confirm this?

I'm usually more interested in singleplayer than multiplayer, and I do have a few mods I like to use. They're mostly graphics and weather improvements, but regardless of that, if I can't use them I'll be pretty dissatisfied. Well, even if this is the case I'm sure the community will find a way around it.

Nevertheless, I'm going to reinstall the game soon and install the new patch. I've been meaning to pick the game up again anyway, so the patch was just an incentive to get me to do it sooner. rofl.gif

Episodes from Liberty City is OUT on steam: http://store.steampo....com/app/12220/

Damn! I'm not dropping $30 for that. If it goes down then I'll buy it.

Well, I don't even know how much content is really included. Being it was console-only for the longest time I never even gave it a second thought.
