razor5000
is there any chance this will run on a 2.4ghz single core CPU (i got a AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2.2ghz overclocked to 2409mhz) ... i know dual core is minimum but i wonder if anyone attempted playing it on a single core.besides CPU i meet or beat the minimum requirements. Video card = Geforce 7900GT RAM = 2GB I'm is a similar boat as you, I've a Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 (2.2Ghz), 2Gb Memory, and a Nvidia 7600GS. I was hoping to play it at minimal resolution with medium details (yes I did read the game requirements) but even at 800x600 and all setting at low it lags and looks horrendous. As a stark contrast I can run San Andreas on my monitor's native resolution (1680x1050) with details on full. The game seems only for people who spends lots of money one their computers and buys computer games regularly, whereas I am an infrequent gamer who does not spends ?100s on computer games and plays them once in a way. Even though I have brought all the GTA games, since GTA 3 I am a bit disappointed that RockStar have not catered for users without very fast gaming rigs. Maybe if a patch comes out it might help but I would be surprised, so I will put it on one side and in a few years might try it then. I hope gamers with proper gaming rigs (i.e. not mine) will get this game to play as you have been hoping after a patch. ThaCrip
From what I understand, peds and vehicles are pretty CPU intensive, so even if the game allows you to install/play without a dual core cpu, you will probably not see a very good FPS. I would wait until someone verifies it. I actually have a single core P4 3.2 sitting next to me but it only has a 128mb graphics card so that wouldn't be a fair estimate. thanks for the reply and yeah i agree with you... cause your CPU would be a pretty good estimate for me (cause i think mine is like that or a little faster) but with that 128MB graphics card that would kill your performance most likely. cause i got a Geforce 7900GT 256MB which meets the minimum requirements. but im not expecting to run it great... i just hope the bulk of the game is 'playable' (i.e. over 20fps) cause once you drop below 20 is when it chugs really bad. Don't botherat all this game WILL NOT RUN on a single core. people with high end dual cores are having trouble there is no chance in hell it will even get above the single digits in fps. thanks for the reply.... most likely though the game is poorly coded (especially if high end CPU's dont work well in FPS)... cause i expect Mafia 2 to have less 'requirements' than GTA4 does. at the end of the day i dont care to much if i can run GTA4 since i already beat it on XBox360 (although i usually cant play shooters at all on consoles but that was the exception) but i always like shooters better on PC cause you actually AIM instead of lock on crap.... only reason i beat the GTA4 on console was cause even though the basic thing is still 'lock on' related... once locked on you can fine tune where you aim with analog stick which made the game playable for me and a little more enjoyable vs past GTA games that where just not fun at all on consoles. i just pray Mafia 2 dont require a dual core CPU cause that game i will be pretty p*ssed if it dont run on my PC since that's the ONLY game i want really bad right now. scratch42069
Low-end dual cores can run the game if you turn the settings way down. I had to change most of the sliders down to about 15 but it did in fact play, though it was slow. Overclocking will help significantly. I overclocked my X2 3800+ 2.0ghz processor to 2.2 and I now have acceptable frames with the sliders set to 15 and textures and renders both set to Medium :) Oh, and my in-game res is 1280x800 (60Hz). CY:G
Yeah, had that happen to me yesterday and I'm playing on a 4870 X2 as well.Cy:G, what FPS are you seeing and on what settings? im getting 22fps in the benchmark and in game im sure i get even less when there is smoke or too many cars around. Everything set to 30, texture and render on high @ 1920 * 1200 My guess is the game is just using one of the GPUs in the 4870x2, they did mention something about optimizing it for Crossfire in the patch so we will see. For now i shall keep playing Fallout 3 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/690176-gta-iv-for-pc-official/page/19/#findComment-590225640 Share on other sites
cpu killer
Kinda hard to believe, and stupid, that this game requires such ridiculous processing power. I'm wondering if it's even worth picking up with my system specs? Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53ghz) ATi Radeon HD4850 4GB DDR2-800 Would it even be worth bothering? I can just go out and get the PS3 version as I have a PS3, but I would prefer to play it on the PC. Any advice is appreciated :p On a side note, the game does look kick-ass :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/690176-gta-iv-for-pc-official/page/19/#findComment-590225658 Share on other sites

I'm seeing about 39fps in the benchmark, and it's running pretty good as far as gameplay, but I really think if I OC'd my processor (Q9450 2.66ghz) I'd get better performance. I need to get a cooler for my processor and try to push it up to about 3.2ghz. Hani
I was able to run Crysis just fine (medium settings - about 35fps). Here's my rig: # Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 (2.0GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB Level 2 cache) # Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 # Memory: 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) # Hard drive: 250GB (5400rpm) # Screen: 16" HD Acer CineCrystal (glossy) display (1366 x 768) # Graphics: Geforce 9500 512MB I'm also able to play many requiring games like Assassin's Creed at medium settings. Do you think it will run? Also, is it true that you need an internet connection to save your progress every time? +BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted December 4, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 4, 2008 You do know that fraps slows games down by at at least 50% sometimes as much as 75%? Or at least it used to which is why I stopped using it, they may have resolved that in the last builds? The resulting files did play back at proper speeds though. Unimatrix Xero
no one likes a showoff lol EDIT: on a side note this command line works for alot of people, thus not for me but feel free to give it a shot es, after days of BS and frustration I got it to work, Singleplayer and Multiplayer both work fine although in Multiplayer the framerate occasionally drops to 20 from its usual 25-30.What I am doing to work this as of now in steps: 1: Have Steam and R*SC running in the background. 2: Create a desktop or steam shortcut to "LaunchGTAIV.exe". 3: Set launch parameters to "-norestrictions -nomemrestrict -novblank -windowed –availablevidmem 512 -percentvidmem 100" 4: I tweaked the graphics settings while running fraps to optimize the FPS to my liking, 30 average I'd say. 5: Now finally I am playing this game and frustration is over with although shadows still look like s h i t. I hope this can help anyone, really I do - this game is fun if you get it to work and I want to see some more of you guys actually running this game instead of seeing 10 posts per hour of how much Rockstar ♥♥♥♥ed up and pointless whining and ♥♥♥♥♥ing. Just remember, the night is darkest before the dawn. If you get this to work send me a friend invite, my Live ID is "Necrofanatix" and maybe we can play online! Good luck everyone!
