Richard Hammond
no one likes a showoff lolEDIT: on a side note this command line works for alot of people, thus not for me but feel free to give it a shot Just tried that no change average 22fps with dips to 12-15fps Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz OC'ed to 3.33Ghz 4Gb Ram 8800GT 512Mb R* best fix this and quick, even Crysis Warhead ran better than GTA does.... Sethos
I'm still thinking Vista might have a hand in this Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/690176-gta-iv-for-pc-official/page/20/#findComment-590228610 Share on other sites
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 I wish there was a demo available of this, I don't want to spend $80 just to find it's terribly coded. And yeah, it could run better under DX9 mode, although if it does it's because Rockstar are being silly with DX10 mode, Vista's not at fault. Coldgunner
I normally prefer GTA on PC, aside from the fact my PC sucks, I'm glad I got the console version after reading about this. Reminds me of GTA3's performance issues. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/690176-gta-iv-for-pc-official/page/20/#findComment-590228648 Share on other sites

Funny you say that because FarCry 2 runs better in DX10 than it does in DX9. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA== Granted the benchmarks do use the latest video cards, but yeah games are starting to be better optimized for being run in DX10. Maybe GTA IV will be the same way, though it's not looking that way so far :p Edited December 5, 2008 by shift. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 I'm assuming it already does run in DX10 mode, since there's a switch to force it to run in DX9 mode for Vista users. But if you enable the switch and it runs better, then it's a sign that Rockstar's doing something wrong with DX10 support, since even just a straight port should run faster due to optimisations in the core API. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 Here's what it says in the graphics settings documentation: Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available. SOURCE It's safe to bet that we won't be hitting 60 FPS anytime soon. :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/690176-gta-iv-for-pc-official/page/20/#findComment-590228704 Share on other sites

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) Game is more than playable at less :) I agree. I'd say it even runs well at 30 FPS. Fortunately, I can run the game at 31 FPS @ 1680x1050. It's the drops in FPS that get to me though. Perhaps it's my dual core CPU. Anyway, is anyone up for some online fun later? I can play at 9:00am EST/2:00pm GMT. PS: I've never played online yet. How do I find you guys on Live? Does it work the same way as Live on the Xbox 360? Sethos
I have a Dual Core to and is running at around 35-40 with no drops whatsoever. Yes, you bring up the phone while playing and then you can create rooms or go to the lobbies to look for games. I'd love to join but being in GMT +1 would mean playing in the middle of the night, not too fond of that :/ Though I can happily report the 'issues' from the console versions seems to have been fixed for the PC version. No more people skipping about or cars sailing on the road - At least i didn't see any of that in the few games i played, went butter smooth! It even registers hits properly now. Richard Hammond
Tried the -DX9 switch and its given me a bump in FPS to 30-32 with dips to 23-24, its more playable now in 1280x800 16:10 with both on medium and the rest of the options on 10-15. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) Ugh! I'm having trouble setting up an account. Is it possible to change the primary e-mail address associated with your Live gamertag? I'd like to use my current e-mail address instead of my old one to log in. I don't have a working Xbox 360 with me so I can't do anything there. I've tried changing it on Xbox.com but it says "Sorry, this page is unavailable". By the way, I'm talking about the e-mail address used to log into your Live account. EDIT: I think I've figured out a way to do it. I'll need an Xbox 360 though.
