I agree Aaron I still think he shouldn't be there so quickly but heh who else is half decent in the HW division, prepare for a long title reign.

Randy really should of stayed gone, now there goes his chances of facing Fedor or even fighting a good fight again.

1. randy vs fedor was never going to happen.. way too many hoops to jump through.

j2. Long title reign? Are you ****ing kidding me? Big Nog is gonna tear through Mir, and then Brock.

We can always wish that Randy would face Fedor but I still think Randy should of stayed "retired".

Brock will beat anyone in the HW div with his power but you just need someone like Nog to really go at him and he will buckle big time!

Not surprised. I've always thought Couture was over-rated in the heavyweight division. I am disappointed he lost though because I wanted to see how he would fair against an elite fighter like Nogueira (barring an upset defeat against Frank Mir).

I don't see Lesnar being champion for long. Nogueria's and Mir's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu styles are tailor made for stronger larger opponents (see Nogueria vs 375lbs Bob Sapp, Nogueria vs 300lbs Semmy Schilt, Mir vs 265lbs Lesnar - with Lesnar both men only give up 10-20lbs in comparison, all three are 6'3"). Granted Lesnar was at one time a world-class amateur wrestler, Sapp sucks, and Schilt is a striker.

If Lesnar loses the title, I'd like to him fight Cheick Kongo.

Lesnar would get his ass handed to him by Nogueira and Mir in the sense that they are both FAR superior to Couture on the ground.

The ground and pound style that Couture likes fighting isn't going to overpower someone as big and as strong as Lesnar.

LAS VEGAS -- Massive heavyweight Brock Lesnar (3-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) defied the odds and earned one title while dropping another.

With a stunning second-round TKO of the legendary Randy Couture (16-9 MMA, 13-6 UFC) Lesnar can finally put to rest the moniker of WWE-import in lieu of UFC heavyweight champion.

Lesnar looked patient throughout the round-and-a-half it took to dispatch of the 45-year-old Couture. "The Natural" controlled Lesnar in stretches by forcing his adversary against the cage. But the former collegiate wrestling champion used a heavy right hand to crumple Couture to the mat.

Once the former champion had fallen, Lesnar followed with a barrage of punches. Referee Mario Yamasaki gave Couture all the respect one could ask for, and the crowd favorite was given plenty of time to recover. The offense did not cease, and Yamasaki was forced to halt the contest at 3:07 of the second round.

Following the bout, the always-outspoken Lesnar told announcer Joe Rogan he liked the sound of his new title.

"It sounds good," Lesnar said. "I can't believe it. I want to thank (UFC President) Dana White, the UFC, and I want to thank this guy, Randy Couture.

"It takes a lot of balls to take a year off and come back and fight a young buck like me."

Lesnar also addressed the personality traits that have made the former professional wrestler a heel in most MMA fans' minds.

"I just believe in hard work and that it pays off," Lesnar said. "I may come across as a cocky SOB, but I'm just confident."

Gracious in defeat, Couture admitted the massive difference in size proved too difficult to overcome.

"There was some big ass ham hocks coming at you," Couture said of Lesnar's oversized hands. "It's hard to get out of the way of those."

"That's just a big son of a bitch, that's all there is to it."

When pressed regarding his immediate future, the 11-year veteran said time will tell.

"We'll let things settle out and figure out what we want to do," Couture said. "I still feel like I'm getting better as a fighter. We'll see what happens."

I spoke to Rodrigo for all of 30 seconds because I go to his gym, and when I asked him about this fight all he did was laugh, and said Randy needs not underestimate people. And then quickly said, the belt isn't going to be Lesnar's for long. And there are two twin Nogueiras use their middle names Rodrigo and Rog?rio, since they have the same first and last name.

I thought it was obvious when people refer to Nogueria in the context of the UFC that they are referring to Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira, since he is the one in the UFC, not his brother.

I don't know about you guys but I still think Randy can match up with Fedor pretty well. I also think Big Nog will submit Lesnar though it won't be easy. Nog has a tendency to receive too much punishment in his fights and Lesnar is the perfect opponent to dish it out.

20/20 hindsight, too bad Randy wasn't a tad bit younger, I think he'd own Lesnar.

All I know, is that the shot that dropped Randy, looked like it could kill someone. I mean, Brocks fist covered almost the entire side of his head! Although I have to say, it depends on which Nog shows up to fight Brock as to who would win. If he shows too willing to eat a few shots, I think it could end badly for Nog.

LAS VEGAS - In a stunning upset, Brock Lesnar became the first man to capture both the WWE Championship and the UFC Heavyweight Championship when he defeated UFC fan favorite Randy "The Natural" Couture on Saturday night in Sin City.

Lesnar, dubbed "The Next Big Thing" upon his arrival in WWE, earned the moniker and his first WWE Championship in 2002 after besting The Rock at SummerSlam. Thanks in large part to the backing of the WWE Universe, the former college wrestling phenomenon went on to regain the title twice, both times against Kurt Angle, once at WrestleMania in 2003 and then six months later on SmackDown.

For Lesnar, the road to UFC gold proved surprisingly short. Within roughly six months, the former WWE Superstar climbed to the top of the ultimate fighting heap, capping his ascent with the upset victory over Couture.

Critics have noted that many of the fights on the UFC pay-per-view ended in the first round, leaving UFC producers scrambling to fill the three-hour event with content. The dearth of hearty competition left many viewers to watch less prestigious under-card fights and only served to bolster claims that UFC pay-per-view events can often be a "crap shoot" in regards to filling the full three hours.

For his part, Lesnar took the encouragment of the WWE Universe and the hard lessons forged during his fiery time at WWE and showed UFC and the world why he is not only a man of mettle but also a former three-time WWE Champion.

The only thing that disappointed me there, was how he grabbed the cage for better power when he was hitting him when he was down, That was pretty gay.

Fedor Emelianeko, considered to be one of the best MMA fighters in the world not currently under contract to UFC, issued a statement challenging new UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar to a MMA fight. The complete statement released by M-1, which has Fedor under contract is as follows:

M-1's Official Statement on Brock Lesnar's victory

M-1 would like to congratulate Brock Lesnar on his UFC heavyweight title victory as well as acknowledge Randy Couture's return to active competition after a layoff that lasted over a year.

Couture and WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko had publicly acknowledged a desire to fight each other multiple times over the course of the past year. While M-1 and Fedor remain interested in a match against Couture, we would also like to publicly state for the record that we would welcome a superfight between Fedor and Lesnar that would be held as a co-promoted event between the UFC, M-1, and Affliction Entertainment.

We've invited the media to speak with us today to not only make it clear we would welcome a Fedor vs. Lesnar matchup but to act in a preemptive fashion to address the possibility that UFC officials will try and position Lesnar as the No. 1 heavyweight in the world, much like they have tried to use a marketing ploy to brand Anderson Silfva as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

In the past, UFC president Dana White and Zuffa, LLC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta have tried to claim that Fedor was "overrated" and that his "record was irrelevant." They make these claims in spite of the fact that Fedor holds career victories over UFC champions past and present. While we have tremendous respect for the contributions Mr. Fertitta and Dana have made to this sport, we do not believe they are sincere in their statements.

It is the position of M-1 that the UFC has adopted an anti-Fedor policy because multiple attempts to sign him have not been fruitful. For a company that has tried to market itself as the number one promotion in the world, they are unable to accept the fact that the number one fighter in the world does not reside on its roster of contracted fighters.

We believe that the UFC has determined that it's much more inexpensive for them to use their marketing resources to use smoke and mirrors to brand a fighter as the pound-for-pound best as opposed to actually paying the pound-for-pound best what he is truly worth on the open market.

While Brock Lesnar is an accomplished athlete and a talented fighter, we do not consider him to be the number one heavyweight in the world. Until someone beats him, we strongly believe that Fedor should continue to be recognized as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. In a match between Fedor and Lesnar, we do not feel that at this stage Lesnar would be able to make it out of the first round.

For those who feel our statements in regards to Fedor are self-serving, we'd like to refer you to a video interview on the website RawVegas.tv in which at his UFC 91 after-party Couture himself acknowledges that "Fedor would probably tear Brock up at this point."

LOL at Dana thinking Fedor is overated only because if Fedor was unleashed on the UFC roster he would kill all of them.

If it does happen which I doubt Fedor will win it easily.
