Regaining speed and Flexibility

Recommended Posts

I joined a Martial Arts School when i was 17, trained for 3 years and went through 5 belts back then, i used to be very flexible and fast, but i stopped training and have not done any in 6 years.

I am 26 now, around 5'7, 180 pounds, i recon i need to loose weight, but don't look overweighted though.

i was 140-150 back when i was training, but then again.. i was 17

Do you guys thing that it will be hard to regain the speed and flexibility if i start training again?

I'm 37 and got back into it. Flexibility is my weakness though I can still throw a flip kick and connect to the head. Do a lot of stretching and like my instructor says, you don't need fancy high kicks to win a fight. Timing and speed to me has been more of a problem. Speed goes away when you gain weight, at least for me (obvious). Too much muscle has been a burden as well. I stay away from lifting heavy weights atm and concentrate more on reps with lighter weights and some hypertrophy training.

Just get to running and stretching for 2-3 months before you go back full on to martial arts or you will hate yourself every day for even longer. Get down to at least 165 and then start training in martial arts again. I made a bad mistake and got back into Sambo when I was 25 and I hated myself for 6 months because I was in bad shape.

I have always been interested in martial arts, I'm at the bloomin age of 19, how inviting is the general martial arts atmosphere, community?

(yeah you can get it back, my teacher back in highschool did :D )

p.s. Do they care if you smoke weed?

If you are in the very least serious about it, you wouldn't want to pollute your body anyway.
