Hak Foo Posted December 30, 2008 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Honestly, I'm a One Piece freak. Eiichiro Oda's ability to build worlds is spectacular. But what snagged my attention-- what drew me into the series some 400+ chapters ago-- was Arlong. I was thoroughly fascinated by the concept of a creature who is 1) clearly superior to humans, 2) ultimately proud of the fact, and 3) is interested in gaining and exerting power primarily because of that. I've searched in vain for another character/series that pushes my Arlong button. Honestly, this has been a bit of a disappointment with the various vampire-themed manga I've tried. You'd expect that creatures that feed on humans would easily map, but even snarky, violent, anti-religious Deshwitat (from the manhwa Rebirth) ends up wishing he was human all too often. The closest I've seen is Mina Tepes (Dance in the Vampire Bund) who at least has the same taste for statecraft. Where are our proud, inhuman masters hiding? I don't know why but at one point I started crying. I would recommend reading at least 2 chapters.
