deletedxyz
You know what would be an amazing anime series? Post-apocalyptic anime with zombies a la 28 Days Later and Left 4 Dead. I'm thinking of Saikano meets Blue Gender and Dragon Head (manga). Personal anguish with no holds heart shredding scenario with music set to this: . = Running zombies = Several scenarios of emotional trauma such as families being separated, attacked and spreading the virus/disease = Two to four protagonists with at least one strong female lead I'll be stunned if there is such an anime series. I am actually surprised that the Japanese do not have such an anime series considering how much tragedy, dramas and post apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi futures. There are many manga series that cover this type of stuff (without the zombies though).

deletedxyz
this what you're looking for? /Added to reading list on Mangaupdates. I'm reading Black Jack (the 7 translated volumes) and I laugh at some of the politically incorrect scenes in the manga. Ah, how times have changed. From the 70's to 00's. deletedxyz
I just re-watched Ghost in the Shell (movie). It still continues to be on a completely different level than today's anime. It's both a good and a bad thing. I have yet to come across a "mature" anime that develops themes artistically using the full breadth of what anime can offer. Soundtrack, artwork and character interaction/plot are three vital components of anime that I use to distinguish the hundred's of anime and manga I have watched and read. Kawai Kenji's soundtrack is simply sublime. It takes a cultural twist that feels traditional and its clash with the futuristic atmosphere blends them together into a visual masterpiece. Here's to hoping that a refreshing wave of new anime styles washes ashore and cleanses the overused Shounen and Seinen clich?s. On an another note, can anyone recommend an anime that is similar to Ghost in the Shell (movie) in terms of animation. I've only come across Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade and a few others that have that distinct realistic depiction of faces and body movements.
Jamushroom Veteran Posted December 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 3, 2009 "The Sky Crawlers" which is also made by Mamoru Oshii. I'll have to look into my collection to name a few more. "The Sky Crawlers" was the first one which popped into my head :p

"The Sky Crawlers" was the first one which popped into my head :p I thought the plot was just one huge, philosophical mess despite the refreshing animation. It's such a pity that people think the anime deserved awards because they thought that it was profound with its long scenes of the characters not talking and just staring at each other like goats with the occasional "Baa". Last Exile > The Sky Crawlers.

deletedxyz
Now back to my original planned point, anyone else watching "Asura Cryin' 2"? :) Good to see another Last Exile fan. Regarding Asura Cryin', this is what one of my favorite reviewers (tehnominator) on MAL said" Someone will undoubtedly be cryin' during this anime and it will be you for watching it.Asura Cryin' is a series that makes progressively less and less sense as it wears on. Bad story, bad characters, bad enjoyment factor. It is a fine example of negative plus negative plus negative equals... negative. What's crazy is that she has watched more than 700 anime series... 700!!! Can't get more "otaku" than that.
Jamushroom Veteran Posted December 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 3, 2009 "Last Exile" is a great anime though it's a completely different anime as well. The only comparison it has is that both are about flying aircrafts. "The Sky Crawlers" is just a different type of anime compared with mainstream anime. I think that Mamoru Oshii did a great job with "The Sky Crawlers". It's the type of anime which one would expect from him. Btw, if you liked "Last Exile" a lot then you should give "Blue Submarine No. 6" a try as well. Different plots and not both are about flying aircrafts. Though both have the same character designer: Range Murata.
