Berserk87
just finished Ergo Proxy, overall its really good. Quick reviews of anime' ive watched: I still consider Death Note my favorite. Death Note doesn't really have any humor in it, but the show is awesome, and a great ending. Code Geass was really good as well, but would have ended a lot stronger if they finished it a couple episodes past the first season or continued down the original past of season one. From season 2 on there are still a lot of good parts but it felt it didnt end as strongly as it could have, Code Geass also gets points for having a lot of action/strategy AND humor. Ergo Proxy has a lot of humor/relationship stuff that makes it really good and at the same time a fair amount of action/suspense but i didn't feel ended as strongly. There were a couple 'fluff' episodes that i really hated, and basically did nothing with the story line and had no effect on anything, and no character development at all. FMA, I think i liked the original series better than the one right now, although the one right now is still really good, might just be because i watched the original all at once and this one feels like its taking a long time. lots of action and character development, also a decent amount of humor. Neo Genesis Evangelion, has a fair amount of action but focus' mainly on the relationship side, some humor, but I wasn't huge into it, and the ending wasn't great. Naruto is aimed more at the younger generations and i watched the first 4 seasons of it, a lot of humor/jokes and the characters are pretty solid, but after sasuke left and they stop following the typical "im going to keep getting stronger and stronger" anime template and started including a bunch of 'filler' episodes, i kinda got bored of it, and didn't see it going anywhere. Plus naruto is such a vagina sometimes. Still watching Bleach, only the main story line is interesting though, all the filler/side arcs are ****ing me off, and i loose a lot of interest in the show because i know nothing super important or anything with value to the main arc is going to be shown, only time i enjoy the show is the main story line. The manga sounds like the way to go, but i dont consider myself a manga type of person, and couldn't see myself getting into it. Berserk was slow to start, but half way through i really got into it, kinda lame that its only the first part of the story in anime form, its the only manga im considering right now. Anyone know if its available in full story/hard cover with all the chapters included, and where? Watching Black Lagoon still, which is pretty good, not much humor, but lots of action and decent character development. Towards the Terra was also pretty good, i didn't really get into it or feel attached to any of the characters, meh ending. Would probably be a lot better if you enjoy the characters but theres not much to 'associate' with. I think thats ALL of the anime' ive watched, any suggestions based off of them or comments? Jamushroom Veteran Posted December 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) ^I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell, Eureka seveN, Last Exile, RahXephon, Wolf's Rain, Bōnen no Xamdou, Elfen Lied, Shigurui, Gantz and Baccano! for now :p I would recommend Lamune (very touchy feely - 6/10), True Tears (early high school drama with amazing yet bland animation - 7/10) and Kimikiss ~ Pure Rouge (6/10). ^ I only know those "harem" anime series because I was still a noob and watching whatever connected to the most popular anime such as Clannad, Kanon and Ef~A Tale of Melodies when I had no clue that there were distinct sub genres that pushed stereotypes to the limit and beyond. What I recommend as a light romance mixed with heavy character interaction and war is Gunparade March. It's a rare piece of work. I still am scarred by one of the touching scenes. *shudders at the reminiscence* I've read a few things about True Tears so that's the first one which I'll be checking out. Thanks for the recommendations :) Gunparade March is on my "to watch" list. I even had obtained it during the period where I had to delete watched anime in order to see new anime. Though Gunparade March had to make room for other anime which means I had to delete that as well. This only means that I'll be able to obtain it in better quality :p Edited December 25, 2009 by Capric0rn Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/702580-official-animemanga-thread/page/133/#findComment-592020712 Share on other sites
rustix
Naruto is aimed more at the younger generations and i watched the first 4 seasons of it, a lot of humor/jokes and the characters are pretty solid, but after sasuke left and they stop following the typical "im going to keep getting stronger and stronger" anime template and started including a bunch of 'filler' episodes, i kinda got bored of it, and didn't see it going anywhere. Plus naruto is such a vagina sometimes. Yep Naruto is aimed at the younger audience but Naruto Shippuden is a bit more mature and its definitely much more interesting. After sasuke leaves in Naruto there arent any important links to the actual story line (except for maybe the last bit of the last episode) but I'd suggest you give Shippuden a try Still watching Bleach, only the main story line is interesting though, all the filler/side arcs are ****ing me off, and i loose a lot of interest in the show because i know nothing super important or anything with value to the main arc is going to be shown, only time i enjoy the show is the main story line. The manga sounds like the way to go, but i dont consider myself a manga type of person, and couldn't see myself getting into it. Have you watched the current filler? It's probably the best filler for bleach; almost as good as the main storyline. Udedenkz
I wouldn't recommend Gantz. Nothing gets explained, all enemy designs are poor, and there is no satisfaction in the ending. Although if you like human immorality, you might want to watch it. Wolf's Rain is good for those who like the setting to be post-apocalyptic or with a decaying world. As I see it, Wolf's Rain is a fairy tale for adults. Story and the ending are pretty strong. Beautiful. Ergo Proxy doesn't have humor, well, at least I didn't see any humor. It also takes place in a decayed world. The story is overall serious and the ending was unique. Some might not be able to get it. Code Geass has a shameless amount of advertisements - there is no way you can miss it. It also suffers due to a lack of short people. There are some very painful emotional scenes - which I find to be rather rewarding as it shows the quality of the show. Although I don't like mechas, this was good. Naruto & Bleach are way too slow in story progress & fight scenes are way to stretched out. Those looking for more mature, serious shows should skip these two. Elfen Lied might not be suitable for some due to disturbing scenes involving underage characters. Otherwise, this is a good show which has a good balance of human morality and human immorality. You will remember this anime after you finish it. deletedxyz
any suggestions for what i should watched based on this? You still have a lot of gems to watch since you have only watched the most popular shows that aired in the past 4 years. Capricorn made some good recommendations that I would have made. I wouldn't recommend Gantz. Nothing gets explained, all enemy designs are poor, and there is no satisfaction in the ending. Although if you like human immorality, you might want to watch it.Wolf's Rain is good for those who like the setting to be post-apocalyptic or with a decaying world. Elfen Lied might not be suitable for some due to disturbing scenes involving underage characters. Otherwise, this is a good show which has a good balance of human morality and human immorality. You will remember this anime after you finish it. Gantz has nothing to do with human immortality. It's premise is that people who have already died are given a choice to fight for wishes by surviving a bloody game. It's very similar to Battle Royale. The anime only follows the ongoing manga series, which explains why you found no satisfaction in the ending. My favorite sub genres of anime is post apocalyptic and cyberpunk and I have to completely disagree with your classification of Wolf's Rain. It's an anime series that struggles to act maturely by trying to pose vacuous philosophical statements that are not relevant to the characters' sitatutions, which in this case is a pack of werewolves. It starts out strong but completely falls apart in the end with good ending that only feels unsatisfactory due to the few tedious, boring episodes preceding it. Code Geass has nothing to do with ads. It's simply a show that has taken every popular aspect of the Gundam and Macross universes and combined it with Death Note. It's well executed (which can be said other wise for its second season) and well produced (great signature animations by its studio). Other than that, it's run off the mill characters whose traits can be traced all the way back to Gundam series characters makes it just another big budget series. Naruto and Bleach are the perfect examples of what the shounen formula is. Fighting, slight drama, "Am I stronger than this guy? I'll struggle against him and come close to losing but still win in the end" mentality are very hard to miss. Elfen Lied is Chobits with violence. It does not require much work to interpret that it's simply using its gory facade that it's nothing but a showcase of guts. Udedenkz
@maskedforever Are you saying that everyone is an angel in Gantz? Quite the contrary, many characters seem to be plain evil. Premise is good, but the enemies designs are pretty stupid. Wolf's Rain does occur in a dying world, so I guess it is pre-apocalyptic? Also, there are no werewolves in that show and I don't think it is really deep or anything. I think there are two endings, I watched the extended one and found it to be satisfactory. Our tastes differ. Code Geass has a lot of advertisements in it. It is not this fact that bothers me, but just how blunt they are with it. I mean, other animes also do this like Darker Than Black - but it is not that blunt - maybe somewhere in the background, etc. I don't know where Code Geass came from, but it is well put together. Compared to Death Note, Gundam, and most of Macross, this is easily watchable for me. That formula works. Good story progress can happen using this formula. I just complaining that instead of animating one 5-6 minute non-stop fight sequence, these types of shows tend to stretch it over a few episodes as well as the generic argument - I hate fillers. That is a good way of putting it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/702580-official-animemanga-thread/page/133/#findComment-592023334 Share on other sites

deletedxyz
I'm currently watching Kurau Phantom Memory. Its first episode is probably the best opening episode to a sci fi anime series that I have seen in quite a long time. It's a refreshing change! I can't wait to watch the next 23! Bones' animation quality is amazing. Production I.G. and Bones ftw! deletedxyz
apples, oranges, chalk, and cheese is all im saying. Of course they're not the same but that doesn't make it feel the same if you have watched most of the series in the Gundam universe and Death Note beforehand (which all came out before Code Geass). reason 104 when i hate the 360. lolwut? Are there any video games based on anime that can be compared to most games sold here? I always assumed that they're all dress-me-ups and harem dating sims with a few action titles that can be played on Newgrounds. Azusa
@maskedforever have you played Supreme commander or total annihilation? as to the 360 game i want to play it but NO i can't because of the stupid region locking.
