Though they did change a few things in order to make a good story for the adaption. The original writer of the novel even encouraged the director to do this. I was about to say, Bebop is episodic just like it and one of the greatest animes ever, yet you haven't watched it! Also I'm watching Samurai Champloo atm, and it looks very promising. I liked Claymore a lot, doesn't have the best ending but it's worth a watch imo Fate/Stay Night is another good show if you're interested in that type of a show.
