[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

Recommended Posts

Just finished "Blue Literature" (only 12 episodes?) overall really good, they were short stories but there were a couple great ones.

"Kokoro" was probably my favorite, (episodes 7 & 8), "run melos" and "the spiders thread" were also really good, ive seen references to "the spiders thread" in other shows.

Also finished "Toaru Majutsu no Index" a while ago.(24 episodes?)

Pretty hilarious.

Now I need another things to watch...again.

My top 3 right now would be:

Deathnote

Code Geuss

Ergo Proxy

unless i'm forgetting something, while I like FMA and Bleach, there off in a category of there own.

Ok, I've been gone a while, moved and didnt have internet for a good 2 weeks. But that has changed. I finally got caught up on all my manga/anime as well.

FMABrotherhood is just getting better and better.

Bleach's last episode was a huge dud, and hopefully this arc will come to a finish soon, because they have made it so stale. It started off amazing, but has taken a huge nose dive. Bleach on manga side though is only getting better. Almost every page I turn, I laugh or gasp due to just how well done it is, and what the characters are having to do.

Naruto is great at the moment as well. I love how they did killer b and the fight. The manga is getting wicked with danza and sasuke and madara all duking it out sort of.

Nothing beats One Piece :D

I just finished watching Code Geass. A little weird at times but I find it really great! and yeah, the ending is one of the best out there.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Legend of the Galactic Heroes did it better. >: D

All of you who watched GTO must read the manga. Darker than Death Note and more awesome Onizuka. One of the best manga series I have ever read.

you know that's a little like saying supreme commander did it better than Warhammer 40,000

It's just a saying by people who are more experienced. The person who watched 150 series vs. 50 series or who played games since 1980's vs. 2000's. You start noticing cliches, plot holes, archetypes that are overused that you don't enjoy the anime series as much as a first time anime viewer.

yeah i got like that too but then i stopped and realized if an anim? can stop me from thinking about the rest of the world for 30 minutes at a time then it's doing it's job right i mean anim? like Hidamari sketch do it perfectly because i just can't help but smile when i watch it.

That's an interesting take on anime that I never really thought too much into. That would explain our differences in tastes.

My reason:

It explores technology, space and cybernetics and the politics surrounding them. It also discusses themes such as cyberpunk, which other forms of art tread upon lightly. On the other hand, I love watching anime that can be considered masterpieces of the genre and/or read and watch series that I can relate to on a personal level.

Go play Total annihilation then Supreme commander you'll love them.

I'm not an RTS fan and it doesn't help that I'm getting bored of games for some reason. I recently played Bioshock and it was a complete bore-fest. I don't see anything outstanding except its fantastic atmosphere.

On another note, GTO manga and anime are two completely separate beasts. The anime is the perfect show for the 14-17 year old crowd while the manga is just way above 18+. It portrays high school students that easily can be confused with college students. The first half is all cheer Onizuka but then the whole blanket of naiveity is thrown out for a new level for the older age group.

GTO manga is one of the best summations of an exaggerated situation of a coming of age story from middle school to high school. It's naive and repetitive yet mature and original. Most of all, its depiction of the duality of all its main characters is one of the best executed manga series since Lone Wolf & Cub. This is definitely a seinen manga that matches its prequels and should be considered a must read for all males, both manga and non manga fans.

9.5/10

^ Dude... I don't know whether to compliment you on your dedication or try to wrap my mind about gender stereotypes of dolls.

Last thing about GTO from me for a while...

GTO is VERY similar to Gantz in the last third of the manga. Violence, point systems, gangs, conspiracy... You name it.

GTO: Shonan 14 Days is NOT a sequel. It's simply a side story. The GTO manga ends (fantastically) and it will simply make a huge mark against the franchise if there were to be sequel. GTO anime ending is VERY different in tone and the manga actually addresses all the open threads but in its own manner since the anime is only based on the manga and not a true page to page recreation.

That said, GTO = best franchise alongside Ghost in the Shell. I simply cannot wait for the complete translation of Shounan Junai Gumi.

Hey i just like collecting pretty things such as.

I'm not judging you. If it makes you happy and you enjoy it, then power to you. Fun fact: Every otaku in the GTO manga gets ripped on, even the Gundam ones.
