serious problem with vista and rosetta stone

My fellow neowinians,

I've got a serious problem I am trying to run Rossetta Stone on a laptop that has Vista Sp1 installed. I've tried compatiblity mode, and run with elevated privilages and it's a no go. firewall and security its disabled... The funny thing is that it DOES run in SAFE Mode. Any ideas? I really need to run it.

more symptoms of the problem would help us figure out what the problem is. if it's running in safe mode but not on a regular boot then there must be a service or another program running that conflicts with whatever roseta needs.

try running hijackthis with roseta running in safemode and then run it again when you get the error message on a normal boot. we can see what process might be causing problems.

Hello,

I have heard that someone anti-virus software has incompatibilities with the Rosetta Stone language software.

I don't know if yours is affected, but to test if it is, try disabling or uninstalling the anti-virus software temporarily and then running the Rosetta Stone software.

If it works, go ahead and enable (or reinstall) your anti-virus software, then contact the developer to see if there is a patch or workaround to get it to work with Rosetta Stone.

As much as I hate to ask this, is it a legit copy?

Ie: Did you buy it?

I'm noticing daemon tools being run, which leads me to think that if it's not a legit copy, it's a bad copy.. which talking about warez in general here is a no-no.

If it is a legit piece of software that you actually bought, you should have a tech support number to call and ask them what's going on with why it doesn't work.

Not another person whos like ZOMG DAEMON TOOLS... PIRATE!!! WAREZ ONE ONE!

I use Daemon tools to backup my CDs so I can archive them without having to go finding what I want from the shelf downstairs.

Assumption is the mother of all f*** ups :p

Now for the OP:

What language are you studying? Is it the New rosetta stone or the Old one (New one looks well... new, its interface is updated compared to the older one, it looks more modern)

I'm using the older interface one on Vista SP 1 but UAC is off...

.. well im studying english... with the new version 3.2 of rosetta stone... Im from Honduras Central America...

ill try to disable the UAC and see whats happen..

My fellow neowinians,

I've got a serious problem I am trying to run Rossetta Stone on a laptop that has Vista Sp1 installed. I've tried compatiblity mode, and run with elevated privilages and it's a no go. firewall and security its disabled... The funny thing is that it DOES run in SAFE Mode. Any ideas? I really need to run it.

The problem is related to the FNPLicensingService.exe service and FNInterface.dll file.

The first thing you can try is open Rosetta Stoneto and kill the FNPLicensingService.exe in task manager. This may or may not give you access to Rosetta Stone.

If that doesn't work, install Rosetta Stone on another computer (your license will allow two machines) then copy the rosetta stone directory from program files to the new system. Then open Rosetta Stone and it should be fine.

Before doing either of these things it's best to delete the c:\program data\rosetta stone\tracking.id file.

If you need more help let me know, I had to do this on my laptop when my PC worked fine.
