I believe that the columns were there simply to help you sort files easier (you could click on the columns no matter what view you were in and they would be sorted or grouped accordingly).

i get why they are there and can be useful to some people i guess its just a case of my using xp for so long and getting used to seeing the "tile" view without the columns and i just couldn't get used to it in vista (and i guessing im not the only one if they decided to remove it)

but at least its still there for details view

ideally MS should add an option like include columns in all views or something

It still has the same **** flashing titlebar and taskbar bug wich I had with 6956. Parts of them mostly the middle are disapeering and coming back very fast. Could be driver related as I am using an Intel x3100. Using media center or the Zune software- same ui tehcnology- and sending them behind other windows BUT NOT MINIMIZED they are flashing trough my upper windows randomly !!! Why the hell is this ? When they are minimized this problem not occoures ... Any idea? BTW the last problem was with vista too.

A suggestion :

- ability to group stacked folder ,like i stacked my music folder by album and want to group this by artist , doing this at the moment gets me out of stacking and shows all the files grouped by artist

I thought there will be BETA and RC, (no Beta 1, 2 and so on.....)

am i correct??, is this build labeled BETA or Beta 1??? just asking to make sure that there aren't much betas in they way to final (shorting final release time if you know what I mean?).

thanks

I believe MS are aiming for 1 beta, 1 RC then RTM. But, this could change if there is a lot of problems or some big ones. All companies have a guideline where they want to go, but things don't always go to plan. I think Microsoft will label this Beta 1 until they think it's quality is at RC level and go from there. For all we know, it could get delayed a few months to solve any issues that might arise.

Is there a way to get Right Click + Move back on the taskbar? It is extremely annoying when an app is above the taskbar and I have to unlock/move the taskbar to get access to it's menus.

Right-click on the thumbnail and you'll get the menu you want.

Brandon i know you cant see me but i am on my knees here begging you pass this suggestion on to whoever can possibly implement it

basically i would like the option to disable "live folders" but still keep thumbnails for files

ticking the "always show icons" seems to disable live folders but also disables them for videos files and pictures etc

it would be great if we could disable one but keep the other enabled

thanks

Hey guys,

I have a question.

Don't you think that the start menu "Most Used Programs" list should be removed?

I mean, most used programs we can pin them to the taskbar.

Why do we want more a way to open apps? Wouldn't be better to have a slim start menu instead of the fat with MUP?

I end with a small concept made by me on Paint ©*

I noticed something new after installing it on my desktop. On the laptop with intel x3100 the animations -like the expanding taskbar previews- are not so smooth as the ones on my nvidia card in the desktop. Why is this? Does the ui really need that much hardware to run smoothly ?

One of my favorite things about the list on the Start Menu is it's dynamic.

True, but, as Paul Thurrott says, "The problem is many-fold. There are now far too many places to launch applications and windows. If you feel that an application or window shortcut is important enough to "pin" to the taskbar --i.e., keep it there permanently--Microsoft actually removes that shortcut from the Start Menu's Most Recently Used (MRU) list: So even if that item is one of your most recently used shortcuts, it's now gone from the one place in the UI that's dedicated to such things. Also, taskbar shortcuts behave non-intuitively and exhibit unique behavior, especially with their Jump Lists, which are themselves non-intuitive. The whole thing is a mess. But it's a pretty mess, and to be fair to Microsoft, it's the single major shortcoming in Windows 7."

D'oh! :pinch: Brandon coming through yet again. Thanks buddy.

I LOVE how middle clicking an item on the Superbar brings up another instance of that particular item. Such a time saver!

But people have always been able to launch applications from their Taskbar. If something is important enough then I put it in Quicklaunch. How is the new Taskbar any different from that?

I take a look at my Start Menu list on Vista, and I see programs that I haven't used in weeks that are slowly moving their way down the list and will eventually disappear. It reacts perfectly to how I use my computer, unlike the new Taskbar that requires me to maintain it myself; a problem that I have with my OSX Dock (in fact I often forget I have some programs pinned to my Dock, and so end up searching for them anyway).

I installed Windows 7 Beta 1 on my old laptop (1.4 ghz, 1.25 gb of ram, 32 mb onboard video card) and have to say I'm surprised that it works quite well. One thing that didn't work though was using WPA2-PSK for encryption (for wifi connectivity). I had to switch my router to use WPA-PSK instead and it worked fine. Once I got connected to the internet Windows 7 notified me of driver updates =)

The only downside is aero peek / thumbnails don't show on my laptop because of the POS onboard video. They did however make a lot of stuff still functional which was a welcomed surprise.

Brandon: When pinning "Computer" to the Superbar, it still by default opens up "Libraries". Is there a way to change this to "Computer" or even the User Profile folder?

The only way I found was right clicking the "libraries" folder and clicking on it. You can add folders to it by dragging and dropping them.

I'm liking Windows 7 but I'm having the occasional distortion / crackling during audio playback, something that I don't get with Vista. I have an EMU 1820M; to get sound I had to select 16bit / 44.1KHz or 24bit / 44.1KHz in the advanced properties because my hardware uses a separate mixer that locks the sample rate - both suffer the issue. It will happen maybe several times over a 20 minute period, so it's definitely frequent enough to be annoying.

Also, I'd like it if you could minimise / restore applications when they are grouped together. When you click a normal icon on the taskbar that is open / maximised then it will minimise and vice versa - when they are grouped this doesn't happen. Pretty minor but it annoys me.

When I dragged something like, "Documents", into the start menu, there's no option to un-pin it in the right click menu... The last time this happened, I cleared out all of the pinned applications by clearing something in the registry.

It's also not showing up in, "F:\Users\Kyang\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned" either.

Does anyone know of a simpler way to remove such an item?
