Brandon Live Veteran Posted December 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2008 You don't have to, you can simply shake again to restore all windows back the way they were. Or Win+Home keys :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/714032-windows-7-build-7000-beta-1-qna/page/16/#findComment-590329022 Share on other sites
freakyfriday
i did a upgrade from 6956 to 7000 and the upgrade went fine, but my zune and printer did not work. so i just uninstalled the software for the zune and reinstalled it, worked fine. and for my printer, which never worked in 6956 i just used the windows xp drivers. Inctye
Is there a way to set exclusion rules for the UAC? I'm getting tired of having to click YES everytime I want to run a program I know is safe. Of course, I can't turn off UAC for now since the sidebar bug still exists. What program are you running elevated? You should basically never be running programs elevated, this exposes your system to unnecessary security risks. It has NOTHING at all to do with whether the program is "safe." Running anything, ANYTHING with admin privileges is unsafe. Running anything, ANYTHING with admin privileges is unsafe. Oh come on. Running updater.exe for Firefox Minefield is unsafe? Running ScottraderElite desktop realtime quotes is unsafe? I have had enough experience over the years to know what is always running on my computer and which programs are safe to launch even before Vista came along. Besides, if you have a program installed on your computer that you regularly use, wouldn't you want it to stop nagging you whenever you manually launch it? Imagine a hypothetical situation where Office Word would ask you if you wanted to run it or not everytime you tried to access a document you knew was clean. That would get annoying pretty fast, right? And if I click NO on the prompt, the program fails to launch altogether. So there is no other alternative than to run it with admin privileges. dcoaster
I'm wondering a few things about the taskbar. I'm using it in grouping mode (no text, just icons) and there are a few basic things that either I am missing or have been left out. Lets say I have 6 different programs open and all are minimized by (Windows + M). -How can I get all windows to restore to their original positions? -Is there a way to easily close all open windows without having to find each preview, click to open, then move up to the close button? I was also thinking. I've seen a few people complain about the "is the program launched or not; I can't tell" issue. Why couldn't an open program's icon just shift its position as far to the right of the other "quick launch (pinned)" icons? Then when the program is closed, the icon will shift back to it's original position where it was pinned on the taskbar. That way it would be easier to tell that an open program will be shown to the right of the not-launched programs. Thoughts? Ricmacas
Can anyone tell me why W7 won't find my XP drive? I've gone through everything I can think of. When I boot in XP, I can obviously see my other drive, but in W7, I don't see my other drive. Also, have they figured out a way to get 1680x1050 yet? All I get is 1680x1024. I want my other 26 pixels. You should basically never be running programs elevated, this exposes your system to unnecessary security risks. It has NOTHING at all to do with whether the program is "safe." Running anything, ANYTHING with admin privileges is unsafe. There's also Microsoft made software that requires admin privileges to operate as well. If Microsoft didn't want people running as admin by default to begin with, it should never have been allowed at all. I have had enough experience over the years to know what is always running on my computer and which programs are safe to launch even before Vista came along. Exactly. Brandon Live Veteran Posted December 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2008 Oh come on. Running updater.exe for Firefox Minefield is unsafe? Does it prompt for elevation on a daily basis? It should only do so when there is an actual update available. Running ScottraderElite desktop realtime quotes is unsafe? Dear GOD yes!!! Why the hell would a real-time quote gadget requires administrator privileges? Do you realize that having ANYTHING running with administrator privileges is a security risk? And it is ten times worse if it is something that works with untrusted data, since as anything coming over the network (like stock quotes). That kind of thing should request fewer privileges, not more. I have had enough experience over the years to know what is always running on my computer and which programs are safe to launch even before Vista came along. Besides, if you have a program installed on your computer that you regularly use, wouldn't you want it to stop nagging you whenever you manually launch it? That would get annoying pretty fast, right? And if I click NO on the prompt, the program fails to launch altogether. So there is no other alternative than to run it with admin privileges. You are missing the point. Word does not run with administrator privileges, so it doesn't matter what the heck you open with it. Honestly. If the prompt is bugging you, find a program that doesn't suck. Nothing, nothing you use regularly should require administrator privileges, except during installation or program updates. I'm wondering a few things about the taskbar. I'm using it in grouping mode (no text, just icons) and there are a few basic things that either I am missing or have been left out. Try shift + right-click on the icon. I was also thinking. I've seen a few people complain about the "is the program launched or not; I can't tell" issue. Why couldn't an open program's icon just shift its position as far to the right of the other "quick launch (pinned)" icons? That completely defeats the purpose of the new taskbar, which is to keep everything in the same place at all times so that you can open applications and switch windows with the benefit of muscle-memory. Fair enough. It's fine for me, but there are some people that don't seem to fond of the new way of managing open/closed apps. Just thinking this seemed like a more logical way of organizing open versus closed apps without disturbing the original position on the taskbar. david
Yes, as soon as I booted up after install it recognized both of my monitors. I have one monitor and 2nd monitor is my TV via S-Video. scratch42069
I managed to get Fallout 3 installed on Windows 7 by setting both Setup.exe and Fallout3Launcher on the game disc to Vista compatibility mode and installed. Worked perfectly and the game runs almost exactly like it does on Vista. Examinus
I quite like Aero shake, but obviously it has more immediate applications for touch screens. Still, nice to play with though. The double clicking of window borders and snap-resizing are really nice too. Also, is it just me that prefers the glass to turn black when applications are maximised? I find it distracting when it's clear, which I believe was one of the reasons Microsoft did it in Vista? XPero
Bad battery, BAD! Lol, Minefield is the nightbuild of Firefox. It's remade on a daily basis. Minefield gets updates all the time, so don't worry. dcoaster
It seems like an odd statement. Would think something like: "The battery level is low. Charge the battery or connect to a power source." would be a better wording of said phrase. Your suggested phrase is probably similar to what appears for a normal battery with a low charge. I guess the computer is actually telling the user that the battery has lost most of its capacity and pc might shutdown quickly. It's not telling him that battery is low. Over the time, batteries lose their ability to effectively hold energy, so battery life starts being smaller even with a full recharge and discharge.
