Nope the virus has infected the win7 partition

Its a totally different part of your HDD

Virus can't creep through partitions =)

A virus or malware can spread to any area that it can access and infect. Partition boundries do not stop that.

Use IMGburn to burn the ISO

Its pretty awesome and its free (google it)

You can avoid IE8 bugs by switching to Chrome, which I've been running for 2 weeks on 6956 without any extra bugs.

I switched to Chrome in 6956 and haven't had another crash for 2 weeks.

Eh well thanks but I prefer IE to Chrome so that didn't really help....

Hi there,

Anyone having some kind of DNS resolution issues through a VPN connection?

- once connected to the VPN, I'm able to ping my Exchange server using its name or FQDN, BUT when I try to set up my account in Outlook 2007, Outlook won't find the server unless I specify its internal IP; that way it finds the FQDN, no prob', but doesn't go any further, once the FQDN is found and underlined:

"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

- same thing when I specify my DNS and WINS servers within my VPN connection settings; it doesn't help...

- Outlook is not the only application impacted, other Management Consoles won't find their server unless their internal IP is specified

- last message from Outlook before closing, when manually entering my settings:

"Cannot open your default e-mails folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current user profile before you can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file."

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Is it normal that I can't see the "glass" effect in win7. Yes I'm using it as a VM...

Yes its very normal, You can't get glass effects in VM

Just installed 7000!!! seems the same as 6956 to me...

Why does it still have the UAC gadget bug???

I think they would have fixed that by now x_x

When I installed 6856, it died very quickly - I could not access my files in users and a baloon showed up saying the file system is corrupt, run chkdsk. I scheduled the run during boot, it fixed some problems and when booted, the same baloon error showed. I ran chkdsk from XP, fixed a few problems again, and 7 booted ok. After restarting 7, the baloon returned.

I thought build 7000 would not have this problem, but it was exactly the same. The partition is ok when used within XP - I can create and copy files and chkdsk won't detect any problems... only 7 breaks it :(

Did anyone else have this problem? I remember when testing Vista beta 2, the same things occured, but I didn't really care, cause my old PC wasn't suitable for Vista anyway.

My current config:

EVGA NF66 (nForce 650i Ultra), Pentium Dual E2180 @ 2.80GHz, 3GB RAM, Radeon X1950Pro, Audigy 2. Restoring default clock for the CPU (2GHz) does not help, so it's not caused by too extreme overclocking.

Ok, installed some programs I commonly use on my XP partition so far no problems. Somethings noticed so far;

- I am not liking the network computer status thing in taskbar not blinking... any info about it? I mean its a problem or they are going to leave it like this? I like to know when activity is going on...

- My laptop has NVidia 8400M GS. Win 7 installed the driver for it but its dated 2/22/2008, I tried installing the driver I used to have for Vista but for some reason its not updating to that. I don't get any errors when installing. It says successful, I restart but it still uses the default driver.

The reason I tried updating the driver is because I am finding the aero animations a bit wobbly as in they 'stuck' sort of, are not happening smoothly. I guess its the driver?

If someone can point me to some new driver for 8400M GS please which I can use with Win 7.

- One problem ever since XP with Windows Live Messenger when using Firefox that the mail won't open in Firefox even if it was set as default. It was still there in Vista. I just tried with Win 7; Firefox is set to default. It did open the link in Firefox but I only got to login page. It did not log me in automatically like it does when it opens in Internet Explorer.

P.S. I am using the new Live Messenger beta on Win 7. I have not tried the beta in XP yet and look at the screenshot. It's opening old version of login page!

On my latop, a HP DV5-1007CL, the Internet has problems with 7. It has an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card...and it works fine in Vista (on all levels), but in 7 if I'm on battery it will not work unless I disconnect and reconnect from my network. If I'm AC power it works all the time but it will not work from "scratch" if I boot up with battery (kind of defeats the purpose of laptop, huh?). I have to disconnect and reconnect. It's annoying as hell. Anyone else having similar problems? I've tried looking for settings...but can't figure this one out. Eventually on battery, it will just stop working again and I have to disconnect and reconnect. Sometimes even a reboot it required. So weird as it works fine in it's sibling, Vista.

Also, they have to bring the Sort-Bar back as atleast an option. It can be turned off by default for aesthetic purposes so people don't see it and keep the interface clean. I can vibe with that as it does make it look nicer. By removing it, I think is counter-intuitive though. If you are viewing a media library with over 7000 files in Large Icon view (hey, I have high-res album art and a 22'' monitor for a reason) - where am I going to right click? I have to find that awkward area between the files to right-click? Awkward because sometimes it thinks I'm trying to right-click the file. Then scroll to Sort, and then click my criteria? That is 2, 3, or 4 extra clicks for no reason. Not to mention that if your criteria is not in the pre-selected list then it requires so many more clicks. For the purpose of beauty they have removed a useful feature and buried it again..sigh.

Any help is appreciated with the first issue..the second one is just a gripe (my bad Brandon). :p

can't you just right click on the network icon and click turn on activity animation

Linky

Simply download the driver and modified .ini, run the .exe and put the new .ini into the folder which was created by the self extracting .exe. These are far better drivers even if you're using Vista.

I wish they have an option in the User settings to enable auto login if you have password set up or if you have multiple accounts. I am not a fan of doing "control userpasswords2". Granted it is a one time thing but will be a nice little improvement. :/

Oh, my - I always liked what Paul Thurrot writes, but I disagree with him for the very first time. He doesn't understand the superbar http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_beta_notes.asp :p

I agree..I don't think he gets it either, because it's fairly straght-forward and easy to use for me, but whatever..not really a big deal.

I think Windows 7 is awesome..starting to love the speed but man, they better get on the roll with IE8. It crashes way too much.

Thurrot is kind of a dummy sometimes. Superbar in its default state is awesome.

I don't get some of the inconsistencies though. I.e. why Live Messenger uses the taskbar and removed the tray icon, but Live Mail still uses the tray icon. As a developer I don't get the design pattern there. Or is this because Live Mail just doesn't do that yet as they're both still beta and it will eventually? What about Mesh? Are there reasons to use the tray over the superbar, or are developers encouraged to get their s**t out of the tray? Brandon? Comments?

I'm looking forward to the UI design guidelines on Win 7, but Vista's weren't even complete yet last check I did.

I have read that. I just can't seem to achieve the same benchmarking results as ZDNet did with build 6956 / Vista / and XP. Makes me think that those results were forged.
