rbet
Well... it runs like **** (way worse than XP, never tried Vista) on my Pentium 4 M 2.4Ghz laptop with 1GB RAM (max limit) and an 80GB 5400RPM ATA harddrive. MSFT were demoing Win7 on netbooks, so I thought it would work well on my old laptop. I should've known it was too good to be true. Anyone running a similar test on old/underpowered systems? Uh, my laptop running 32 bit windows 7, AMD X2 X64 at 1.7GHz per core 1GB Ram, and 120gb hd runs windows 7 far better than it ran XP or Vista. George P Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted January 3, 2009 Most of the netbooks are single core Atoms at 1.6Ghz with 1GB of ram and it's run on those fine. And the Atom isn't any sorta powerhouse when it comes to CPUs. rbet
Can someone running W7 on a netbook post their WEI scores? Mine look like this: 1. I experienced something weird; the first time I ran the test, the processor score was 3.1. When I ran it again, the score dropped to 1.6. 2. So yeah, I may have figured out the problem with my crappy experience with W7... anyone have Mobility Radeon M6 drivers for Vista/W7? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/714032-windows-7-build-7000-beta-1-qna/page/28/#findComment-590353538 Share on other sites

Calum Veteran Posted January 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2009 I guess you just answered your own question? ;) Ermmm, no! ;) It is very unlikely that there will be another beta (as there only will if there are any major problems), therefore why call it beta 1? It should be referred to as the "Windows 7 beta", in my opinion and then if there is randomly (and unlikely) another beta, then that should be called "Windows 7 beta 2". But why call this one "beta 1" when it is more than likely going to be the only beta of Windows 7. It's annoying how they pre-announce how many betas there will be. Surely the number of beta releases should be determined by the quality of the product at each beta release stage and should only move onto the RC stage when it is considered to be release quality? You're right, but I think Microsoft know what they are doing. I thin the reason they announced how many betas and release candidates they plan on having (one of each) was because of how far in the development they have progressed so far. They can predict how many betas and release candidates they will most likely need, however they never said it was definite as they know problems can happen and more betas or release candidates may be needed (it is just unlikely ;)). Any confirmed anti virus work on Wndows 7 7000? 1. Same as all windows 32 bit versions.. I have 4gb installed and it shows 3300MB as usable.. Hopefully the 64bit version is available when the official beta starts.. 2. There are two security suits that are compatible from kaspersky and avg http://www.microsoft.com/windows/antivirus.../windows-7.aspx I'm trying kaspersky's and it seems to work fine.. I have 2 250 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 4200 rpm.w7 runs smooth, but I dont think my hd should score this low... Doesn't it has to do something with that 4200rpm? I have installed it on my spare HD (200GB) which is 7200RPM and my score is 5,4.. Anyway my GPU drops my score to 2,0 :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/714032-windows-7-build-7000-beta-1-qna/page/28/#findComment-590354392 Share on other sites
George P Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted January 3, 2009 I think it's the disc speed of 4200rpm as it relates to i/o. Sure it's a SATA disc, but it's spinning slower than desktop drives and so on, so seek/read times, and probably even write speeds will be slower. Have you run a HDD benchmark test to see what read/write speeds you get? You can then compare those to other hdds and see. LuckyStars
I have a few general questions: How do you get video support (such as GMA 900)? How do you get Aero support (transparency)? How do you get driver for wireless support (iwi2200)? I'm sure these questions have been addressed before, but I need to be pointed in the right direction before I do research. Thank you. Dmented
Questions from a beta n00b! (taking a break from xbox for awhile :) )1. How much RAM will windows 7 recognize(32bit)? 2. Any confirmed anti virus work on Wndows 7 7000? I tested NOD32 and that worked just fine. As for the general topic, I love Win7. I agree with what some people are saying, "Runs like XP, looks and acts like Vista". I will do some more testing with it soon, once I reinstall it. 2 things I would like to know real quick though... 1. Does EVGA's Precision tool work good with it? 2. For anyone who has a ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI card, does that work good with it? (I haven't bought it yet, just trying to get some info.) zshadow
My HDD score is also low - 3.0. In Vista it was 5.7. Not really sure why the score dropped so drastically, but read/write speeds on 7 seem faster so I'm not concerned about it. The score for my CPU, Memory, and Graphics Card actually increased. Not really sure why the score dropped so drastically, but read/write speeds on 7 seem faster so I'm not concerned about it. The score for my CPU, Memory, and Graphics Card actually increased. It was mentioned many times here. Windows 7 includes an additional hard disk test involving random access. Modern disks very often have very high access times, despite fast sequential transfer rates of over 100MB/s and multi-terabyte capacities. So, if the random access time is too high (how high?), the score is capped at 3.0. George P Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted January 3, 2009 I suppose that time is listed in your HDD info, check the model online for it's specs and see what time is listed for those who are getting capped and those who aren't.
