x-byte
U got UAC off??Gadgets don't work wit it off. Is a bug =( No it's not a bug. It's because the gadgets run in protected mode. And protected mode doesn't work when UAC is disabled. x-byte
+brandon told me otherwise, now I'm really confused... Then i might be a bug that they can't run when not in protected mode. Maybe he will confirm that. I've heard otherwise though. But would be nice to be corrected if this is the case. PermaSt0ne
From my experience, windows remember their position in Windows Vista :huh:Maybe that was an issue which was fixed in Windows Vista Service Pack 1? One thing that annoys me is that Windows Explorer windows do not remember the size you specify for them (by using the 're-size' cursor). Does this happen in Windows 7? i dono what you guys are having problems with but i have my folders and windows explorer set to the exact width and height and view options that i like there's still bugs with the folder view thing but there are several ways to fix it. you just have to look them up Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/714032-windows-7-build-7000-beta-1-qna/page/30/#findComment-590359350 Share on other sites
Ambroos
i have a question for you alldoes the Windows 7 x64 version require drivers to be signed by microsoft before they can install like with Vista? because of that "feature" there's quite a few programs i can't install and if it's the same with windows 7 then i'll have to go back to 32-bit and my 6GB of ram will be reduced to 3GB  Yes, the driver signing is there. But just as in Vista, you can disable it with a boot option. But you will STILL need special x64 drivers, even if they are not signed. 32bit drivers will never work... George P Global Moderator Posted January 4, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted January 4, 2009 They're just "signed" from the hardware maker that they're official etc, so that people can't install hacked or fake drivers that could mess with your system etc. It's just another layer of security. tazd
Well i was wondering if anyone has found a way to remove the favorites link in the navigation panel. I know some may think it strange i want to remove this but with the way i use the keyboard for most things it just makes life harder having it there, as all i want is computer list really. Or the ability to change the order things are shown in the nav panel would be nice so we can have it work for us and not us work to it. Other than that i am defiantly happy with win 7 and have it on all of my systems bar 1 as the main o/s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/714032-windows-7-build-7000-beta-1-qna/page/30/#findComment-590359958 Share on other sites

I mean as long as I don't try to view any network folders or transfer anything it's ok but that's kinda crucial lol. What kind of crashes? I've used the network a lot and never had an issue. Transferring music, video, documents etc. The only thing that have crashed with me is Fallout 3, but that is a driver issue I think. Happens very rarely. scratch42069
Networking worked perfectly for me with no crashes whatsoever. -Hiroshi-
You can add various in browser searches for websites. I've added them in a blog post on my blog, it uses a search feature called OpenSearch. BrandonLive also made one for Deviantart, at his blog. Absolutely brilliant feature called Windows 7 Search Federation. Long Zheng did something similar with Flickr on istartedsomething. I think it's called Open Search, confused as to what it's actually called, because so far I've seen THREE different names for it. Federated Search, Search Federation, Open Search.. Transferring music, video, documents etc. The only thing that have crashed with me is Fallout 3, but that is a driver issue I think. Happens very rarely. when i expand a network folder that contains lots of data (100s of folder and files) the arrows that indicate whether a folder can expand flash on and off rapidly. they cause explorer to be constantly loading. this can be fixed my closing the window and opening it again. but transfering files often it will get the end (the file transfers successfully) but the dialog won't close if you attempt to close it it won't and then explorer stops working. if for any reason explorer fails and has to restart it doesn't work and then I can't do anything. DrCheese
I guess upgrading isnt really worth it, windows is only using total of 3325 That's because your using a 32bit version of Windows 7. Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2009 I think it's called Open Search, confused as to what it's actually called, because so far I've seen THREE different names for it. Federated Search, Search Federation, Open Search.. We tend to call the feature "Federated Search" ("Search Federation" is obviously just a variation of that). OpenSearch 1.1 is the protocol that the feature uses, along with RSS and/or Atom. From my experience, windows remember their position in Windows Vista  One thing that annoys me is that Windows Explorer windows do not remember the size you specify for them (by using the 're-size' cursor). Does this happen in Windows 7? In Vista and earlier they would remeber their size and position based on the folder you were viewing when you closed the window. So if you opened an Explorer window, browsed to Computer, resized it to 500x200 and closed it - the next time you click Computer in the Start menu, it would be 500x200. But if you clicked Documents it would be a different size. In Win7 Beta the behavior has changed such that all Explorer windows, no matter what folder you open them to, will open at the size of the last closed window, regardless of whether they were in different folders. I do not know if this is final behavior but I am certain the guys that own that stuff will be watching for feedback to see how people like the change. Brandon, is this behavior separate for different windows? For example, I like having my Control Panel a certain size while the regular Computer/Documents/etc are a different size. Would this new behavior change that?
