obiwong
The reason is he had physX enabled initially so the program was using his graphics card to run the CPU tests as well, which boosts the performance figures. that was my guess as well Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/736930-official-3dmark-scores-database/page/3/#findComment-590616120 Share on other sites
+shift. MVC Posted February 23, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted February 23, 2009 From what I see, PhysX doesn't boost GPU score, but the CPU score by taking the load off the CPU and putting it onto the GPU. hawker1986
From what I see, PhysX doesn't boost GPU score, but the CPU score by taking the load off the CPU and putting it onto the GPU. Thats exactly right. Its a bit of a dodgy thing to look at realistically though, because in the real world youe GPU cant do physX and graphics with its full power as it does with this test, if you see what I mean. Having physX enabled in game will lead to some detriment of frames, just depends how powerful the GPU is. +shift. MVC Posted February 23, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted February 23, 2009 Will update as soon as I get home. But yeah, 3DMark is a really general gauge of computer performance. There ARE some flaws with the way the tests are run in that they are quite heavily weighted upon CPU. When in real word performance testing, a 3.0GHz + Core 2 Duo would perform just as well as a 3.0GHz + Core 2 Quad; at that point the GPU really becomes the main deciding factor in performance. Colin.B
Well...I just installed my Evga GTX 260 SC. No other hardware changes. I want to ask before I post a screen shot: My previous score was something like 14,475 and now it's 14,946...Is that really the maximum increase? I only ask because I expected a higher one. I know it's just a silly benchmarking result and doesn't reflect gaming performance but...Yeah. I was hoping for 16k or so heh. +shift. MVC Posted March 13, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) nothing overclocked or any fancy stuff You're going to have to submit that with the required information. Thanks! Things you forgot to include is a GPU-Z screenshot as well as the submission format that I've requested. Sorry for the inconvenience but it's for consistency sake. @ DigitalManifestation Are you using PhysX? You're only about ~100 points off from the 15k mark so maybe not bad of an increase. Things I would try are to try and push your CPU more as well as maybe overclock your video card as well. Might yield a couple hundred more points. Edited March 13, 2009 by shift. hawker1986
Hey digitalmanifestation, the reason there is little improvement is because 3dmark06 is very CPU limited with modern hardware, so the fact your CPU is at the same speed explains it. If you benchmarked vantage you would have seen a good improvement in score, so dont worry. If you want the extra points in 06 the only way to get it is to boost up your CPU speed :s. Colin.B
Thanks for the replies guys. I overclocked my CPU to 3.2 and it yielded higher results. I did have Physx enabled both times. I'll run 3DMark Vantage and edit the results into this post.
