Inctye
Very impressed with the performance and smoothness improvements so far. Few thoughts after upgrading from 7000 to 7048: 1. Sometimes newly opened programs do not come to view on top of all other windows (bug?) 2. Start menu seems a little slower than before. However this could just be because it is still indexing all the locations and files. 3. Finally fixed the windows headers and made the text more readable compared to the Aero background. 4. Taskbar is smaller and definitely giving a noticeable increase in screen space. 5. Folders can now be created on the desktop and dragged into the start menu>all programs without error message. Same thing for moving shortcuts in the All Programs list into a folder without getting an error message. 6. Windows now detects whether you have any tablet/touch inputs and automatically determines whether to start the Tablet PC Service (previously I think it would always start even if you did not have any inputs and had to be manually disabled) 7. Hard to say whether boot times have improved but I do notice it takes a little longer to load the login screen after the GUI boot animation. 8. After login, the desktop loads faster than ever. Less than 20secs with the laptop specs mentioned in my sig below. 9. Startup memory is greatly improved. Now starts in the mid-30% range (of 2GB ram) rather than around 50% for 7000. 10. Disk cleanup no longer has the option for deleting hibernation files, which is good since I always had to be extra careful not to accidentally delete those every time I used this. Well that is all I can think of right now. Will certainly be keeping an eye out for more fixes and improvements. koinonia
Just for tips: After every clean/upgrade installation, do a configuration for all your applications (tweak settings to your perferences) and I actually think there's no need to tweak much in Win7 since it's a optimized version of Vista. -- http://www.tweakhound.com/vista/tweakguide/index.htm has a good guide for that. Make sure to do cleanmgr /sageset:50 and select all components then run a cleanmgr /sagerun:50. Also use CCleaner. Then reboot and defrag. Personally I disable my pagefile then boot into safe mode and use JK defrag 3.36 to defrag then set back my pagefile. It works great no lag woohoo. Just make sure you have all latest/updated drivers and programs and remove any start-up programs you don't need. Guest xiphi
Folders that require permission now have a lock. The Aero border bug has finally been fixed. (First image is from 7022. FaiKee
Yay... successfully upgraded to 7048 from 7000 =) Seems the betta fish is bye-bye for good, and the key works too!! Just a thought, If I use a running win7 to make a [recovery disk], I get one with only 140M used with no more available space. Nagisan
Any way to analyze what is taking so long during booting? I did an upgrade from 7000 to 7048 and it takes around 2 minutes to boot (from BIOS display to able to open applications), before the upgrade it took 1-1.5 minutes. It also seems to load from the desktop somewhat slow.....before by the time it got to the desktop it was ready to go (everything was loaded and I could open programs), now it takes pretty much just as long as before to get to the desktop, but nothing is loaded at that time, it takes another 20-30 seconds to load after that. Other than the boot issues I'm having, everything seems to be running fine so far.....quick question though, the Explorer button on the taskbar, any way to change that to open up Computer instead of Libraries through normal settings? I had it done by creating a shortcut and putting it in the taskbar on 7000 but was kind of annoyed by it, whenever I would open it, then click to open one of my drives, it would open the drive in a new explorer window instead of that current window (but it ONLY did this on the first drive I opened, after that it opened the rest in the current window).....this behavior would not happen if I opened up Computer through the desktop icon. TechnoGuru
Here is my quick overview. WEI Q9550 (7.4 @3.4Ghz) with Nvidia GTX280 (7.9 & 6.6) - Worked the first time. Dell 630 - Worked the second time. First time I got the error. Lenovo X300 - Does not work, keep getting an error. Sorry no SSD score VelociRaptor gets a 5.9 score Memory 600MB on startup for the Dell 630 & Lenovo X300, both have 2GB of RAM 1GB on start for my Q9550 with 4GB of RAM, normal usage is about 1.5GB of RAM with a few windows open and Live Essentials installed. wmpnetwk.exe takes up 540MB, hmmm.... Will have to disable that service since I do not use media sharing at the moment. Maybe I will just get more memory and not worry about it and connect it to my XBOX 360 again. Decisions.... I hope they fix wmpnetwk.exe memory usage before RTM, this is a real hog. Windows Media Center Windows Media Center crashes if the location is set to Canada. Using an ATI 650 tuner. I have to use USA to make it work so I do not get any media guide. Build 7000 worked fine. Build 7022 crashed. Performance is better now, TV is smooth and not jerky. Build 7000 & 7022 were not smooth. Moving other Windows with the TV playing shows lag. In Vista this was not a problem. General Comments after using it while typing this NVidia drivers (181.71) for Windows 7 work fine, no difference in WEI. 7.9 Aero & 6.6 for gaming. Will setup SLI for two 280's to see if my gaming score goes up. Install from USB stick was quick, less than 15 minutes for the 3 systems. I think it was even under 10 minutes but I did not time the install. If you have a 4GB stick use it you will like the fast installs compared to a DVD. Start menu looks fine to me... no real complaints, open just as fast as 7022 or maybe even faster. It is fast enough for me. Boot time seems about the same as 7000 or 7022 on all three systems. Browsing folders on the hard drive is quick. Faster than XP or Vista. It seems instant even on drives where I have tens of thousands of files. Libraries work fine. In 7000 it did not seem to pick up my Music folders that I added. Installing on a Dual monitor system worked. It worked on 7000 but crashed on 7022. I had to remove one monitor to get it to install on 7022. Desktop loads really fast after login. Text looks great. On build 7000 I noticed some artifacts which hurt my eyes. Firefox 3.1b3pre... still no jumplists... no Windows 7 fault. Closing tabs free up memory. Moving the user folders to another drive works fine and does not leave stub folders behind like in Vista Logitech Quickcam software will not install, says OS is not supported. Drivers work though. In 7022 32Bit the Logitech software installed just fine when prompted automatically after first boot. All drivers are recognized on the three systems except for the Biometric Coprocessor on the Lenovo X300 IE build is 8.0.7048.0 and does not say RC or Beta No Feeback links on the Windows Adobe Acrobat 9.0 seems to work now. Before I had to download the PDF files because I would just get an OK dialog. Desktop Gadgets work. They did not work on 7000 64Bit for me. They worked fine on 7022 32bit. Tablet PC Input Service is set to manual Memory usage went up to 2.3GB, stopped Media Player Network Sharing Service but it still says 2.3GB. Closed all apps except for Firefox (70MB) and the desktop gadgets (sidebar 50MB)... still using 1.75GB on my 4GB Q9550. This seems worse than 7022 32Bit... I think I was around 1.3-1.5GB most of the time. Hmmm. System is still fast and responsive though. Changing the volume in Media Center still changes the global volume setting. They need to make this independent like the other apps. 32bit drivers for my Canon iP4500 do not seem to be included just like in 7000 64bit. Will have to see if I can get it working in 7048 since it had problems in 7000. 7022 worked fine and included the driver so I could share the printer with my 32bit systems. Maybe I will just rip the driver from 7022. The download from Canon did not work on 7000 64bit. Speakers, still no quad speakers (no sound from rears). Not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem or not. They worked in Vista though. NVIDIA PhysX is 32bit even though I installed the 64bit drivers. NVidia issue. This is displayed in the control panel along with Mail (32-bit). Office 2007 is installed. RemoteApp and Desktp Connections icon in Control panel. Didn't notice this before. Will have to test it against Windows Server 2008 R2. Library - Music - Take a little while to show the album info... one or two seconds. Maybe indexing still needs to do it thing. System View - Displays no Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display. Cool feature. Both of my monitors are recognized now. Dell 2405FPW & 2407WFP. Disk Defragmenter was turned on by default on all three systems. It should not have been enabled on my X300 since it is a SSD drive. I turned it off. Get Windows Live Essentials link is still displayed even after I installed it. This should be removed after install. Newsleecher 3.9 Beta 3 still crashes a lot. My AppData folder is 1GB in size thanks to the indexes for Media player, thumbcache, and other things. OK, that is my quick list... time for bed. Cheers Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/742178-windows-7-build-7032build-7048-64bit-leaked/page/10/#findComment-590659984 Share on other sites

Nagisan
Seems to have fixed the hibernation problems I had with 7000....basically in 7000, after I would come out of hibernation it wouldnt load all the programs I had open when I went into hibernation....and then shortly after using the system for awhile it would start performing terribly.....such as being unable to open folders (window would appear but nothing would load inside it), etc.....just did a quick test so I can be sure, but it seems to be working better straight out of hibernation than 7000 did.
