[Football] Summer 2009 transfer thread

The latest is that man city are throwing their weight behind getting Tevez as well, but my feeling is that if given the choice he would rather play at Liverpool than a team with zero championship potential (IMO Man City are trying to 'do a chelsea' and buy titles, unfortunately for them I can't see it happening).

Also, hearing some more crazy rumors that Real Madrid are looking at a 70 million switch for Ronaldo... Which IMO is outrageous and pretty unlikely

Looks like the silly season is in full swing xD

Yeah I love the summer rumours.

Yeah, I saw about Tevez and Ronaldo on The Sun website today. Their "exclusive" says that Ronaldo has told his team-mates that he wants to leave because he's done everything he wanted to at Man U; balls is it true. As for Tevez, I'm fairly confident that we'll sign him permanently; the fans want him to stay, and I think he's a great part of the team.

The fans may want him to stay, but it sounds to me that not only is he annoyed at the lack of first team action he gets at united, I believe Fergie is still dragging his heels over the price. Ultimately it will come down to 2 things, whether Tevez really wants to stay or not, and if any of the teams after his signature can flash more cash than United.

As any Liverpool fan will tell you though, The Sun's version of the truth and everyone else's tends to vary wildly so I will wait to see this stuff from a more credible source before I listen

The tevez saga is IMO believable, it is obvious that in the second half of the season Berbatov has been the preferred option, but I simply don't see Ronaldo leaving for any amount of money whilst he is in contract, he is what turns a good team into a great team (just look at how united struggled in their first few games without him).

The outcome of Alonso going to Real Madrid depends on their forthcoming elections.

Juventus no longer have an interest in Alonso having signed Diego.

If the money is right (I have heard 19.5 million, rising to 23.5 million) then Liverpool will sell to Arsenal.

I honestly hope Liverpool keep Alonso, he has been superb this season and is a big reason we have been playing so well, it just doesn't look like he will be staying though.

I don't want him to go either, but I don't agree that Tevez would be of no use to Liverpool. When Gerrard and Torres where injured, our lack of extra class in attack was all to evident in that too many draws cost the title this year. I feel the reason that Robbie Kean didn't fit in was related to the way he plays, not because he didn't have a place in Liverpool. Personally the thought of seeing Tevez in a Liverpool shirt is pretty exciting, although I agree I hope Xabi isn't sold because he is a pivotal part of what makes the Liverpool team tick.

It is down to opinion.

Although I like Tevez as a player, he would want to start every single game, not just those where Torres or Gerrard are injured. This would mean we would have to change the system that has been proving so, so successful for us. Alternatively, we could play him out of position (say on the left wing based on a 4-2-3-1 formation), but then we would not be getting the best out of the little fella.

Oh, and he is a Manc.

Well technically he's an argie, but personally I would not turn a way a defector of his ability, manc or not :p

Realistically though, I believe it is a classic case of needing more attacking punch. Admittedly, Keano underperformed, but apart from stevie and torres, it is clear that there isn't as much attacking punch as there should be. Liverpool have scored a lot of goals in the run in, but for me more firepower is needed to ensure we can see off the small teams, the fatal Achilles heel of this season

Admittedly as a second striker he may have a little trouble fitting into the current system, but with the personnel at Liverpool's disposal I would like to hope that they could make more than one formation work.

However, only time will tell and it will be interesting to see where this goes, whether we sign him or not. I also admit some of the dead weight needs to go for sure. I am far from impressed with Lucas, and for my liking Babel is too inconsistant.

Personally though, I would just love to see the look on the faces of people like Mail if Tevez did get signed, and scored the winner against United

Diego Deal Done

Juventus have completed the signing of Brazilian playmaker Diego from Werder Bremen.

The Serie A giants have splashed out 24million euros (?21m) in order to land the South American star.

The 24-year-old underwent a successful medical on Monday, before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal 24 hours later.

Diego, who will officially move to Stadio Olimpico at the end of the 2008/09 campaign, is now looking forward to starting an exciting new chapter in his career.

"I am enthusiastic and delighted to be a part of such a prestigious club," he told the club's official website.

"I have dreamt of this moment since I was a child.

Challenge

"After an experience in Portugal (with Porto) and in the Bundesliga, I will be able to prove my worth at a high level with difficult competition.

"It is the right time for me to take this important step and I am convinced that at Juventus I will be able to achieve great results."

Meanwhile, Juventus managing director Jean Claude Blanc has welcomed the arrival of Diego in Turin.

"He's a fundamental player in the strengthening of the side," he said.

"We have always said our aim is to put together a blend of youth and experience and Diego, at 24, is a player with both."

im still hoping tevez goes to liverpool, even though he possibly wont fit there system, i reckon he could play a floating midfielder-striker if that makes sense because to me he is a rooney with a bit less power but more skill.

OR keep torres fit.. >.>, then it wouldnt be a problem...lol

and rappy who's the chick in the sig....green eyes....wow...

I heard Wenger was interested in Bassong and N'Zogbia.. he is also linked recently to Santa Cruz and also stories linking us to Brad Hangeland emerged today which I hope are not true.. While Chamakh is also linked.. I'm not so sure about these strikers coz Wenger says he won't sell either of the ones we have.. which I feel can be a mistake coz we need someone the class of Torres.. maybe Villa.. I feel Owen is past his best and his career is on a decline.. but still, he will somehow find a club in EPL who wants him.. Martins will find a med-big club too possibly Blackburn if Santa Cruz leaves or maybe Spurs?

We need..

a winger.. I prefer Silva

a striker to replace Ade or van Persie.. my vote is for David Villa

keep Gallas and add.. maybe Upson or someone who is physical in defense to help us deal with those dead ball situations better

and Xabi Alonso or another good holding midfielder.. actually I think we can play Toure as a holding midfielder if we can get big strong CB to partner Gallas.. I rem Toure used to play in midfield for us when he came in and used to score.. I see him as a Viera-type player and can be just what we miss. What do you guys reckon? There are also Song and Diaby but they have their days.. we need someone who can make every day he plays for us his own.. like Xabi

I couldn't see Alonso going to Arsenal.

To be honest, my feeling is that Arsenal's squad needs a bit of an overhaul, they need to trim the ineffective fat away and mix some experience in with their crop of admittedly promising young players.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has revealed Manchester United have made a 'non-concrete' enquiry for Franck Ribery.

United are among several clubs to have been linked with a bid for Ribery, who still has two years to run on his contract.

Spanish rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid are also rumoured to be keen to sign the France international, although Bayern are confident of keeping hold of the winger.

Reports have claimed that United would look to bring Ribery to Old Trafford in the summer, if Cristiano Ronaldo moves to Real.

Hoeness has confirmed United's interest in Ribery hinges on Ronaldo's future, but would want more than the 40million euros being quoted.

"I would really not even answer the phone if the amount would just be ?34m," Hoeness told Sport-Bild.

"There was a casual request from Man Utd. But then it depends on Cristiano Ronaldo."

Hoeness has also been critical of the work ethic of Bastian Schweinsteiger, suggesting the midfielder needs to consider if he wants to stay at Bayern.

He added: "You have to confront him with the question of if he wants to continue to be just one of the boys, if the performances he has showed this term are really what he wants it to be in our team.

"The performances of a couple of players are not like their contracts. We will have to think about the roughness of a potential cut inside the squad."

My brother will be really ticked off if we get Ribery, as he thinks he's ****. :p

I'm indifferent about him, as I haven't really seen him in action much, but I think he's getting hyped up a bit too much. I read on The Sun.co.uk yesterday that Zinedine Zidane was gonna advise Real Madrid against going for C. Ronaldo and go for Ribery instead because he thinks he's a better player than Ronaldo.

In the event that was Ronaldo's last match he's going out with a whimper. Though I still don't see him leaving, and I still believe going to Real Madrid would be a step backwards for him.

Yeah he'll still be at Utd, I am not sure really sure what this years Summer "Gossip" story will be, maybe Tevez but that should be over before the window really begins.
