Having Alonso go is going to cost Liverpool big. Sad that he is choosing to sell out and leave for Real Madrid's money now, when Liverpool where on the verge of being a title winning force. Sad, but the sport is being ruined by money nowadays.

He's not leaving just for money though is he?

He's a Spanish bloke and you have to admit, following Real Madrid next year is going to be exciting with Ronaldo, Kaka, and Benzema attacking.

He was getting paid well at Liverpool as well, it's not like he was on peanuts. Liverpool were close last season, but so were Newcastle under Keegan, and that's where they peaked. Do I need to remind you of Newcastle's current situation?

Yeah you did Marty... and it was great to watch :p but now they have Perez back and spent a shipload on signings.. I can see they are not balanced and that could be their undoing this season but maybe Perez will fix that by more signings.. they will be a force this season for sure thats whats so attractive to Xabi.. its not like they are offering him Ronaldo/Kaka type contracts. Madrid want him on the cheap..

Heinze signs for Marseille.. they are selling now and I feel they'll try to get big names for defence now..

However, Liverpool have backroom stability, Newcastle where managed by idiots. Liverpool will not decay like Newcastle did.

And to be honest, having Ronaldo in the team will be a reason for me to not watch them I can't stand him as it is.

I'm hearing Madrid do not want to offer a lot of cash for Xabi.. BUT they are ready for cash + player exchange for him.. how does ?15M + Huntelaar or Negredo sound to Liverpool fans? I feel if you can get Huntelaar it will be good for Liverpool as he is a great player and with link up nicely with Kuyt and Babel..

Here's the report I was talking abt earlier:

Real Madrid are prepared to offer Liverpool a choice of Alvaro Negredo, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or Rafael Van der Vaart as part of the deal to take Xabi Alonso to the Bernabeu as the Spanish club try to break the deadlock surrounding one of the summer?s longest-running transfer sagas.

Alonso handed in a formal, written transfer request on Wednesday night in a bid to expedite his move, held up for several weeks by Real?s refusal to meet Liverpool?s ?30 million asking price for the Spanish international.

Rafa Benitez, the Liverpool manager, had asked Alonso for a decision on his future - though he had not, as has been suggested, put a definite time limit on the deal - and the player had hoped a declaration of intent would force both clubs to reach an agreement.

van der Vaart is also an option.. lets see what Rafa does.. he wants Aquilani according to recent reports but van der Vaart can be useful.. as can Wesley Sniejder..

Manchester United are about to tell Valencia to name their price for midfielder David Silva.

Arbeloa on brink of move to Real

Alvaro Arbeloa

Arbeloa joined Liverpool in January 2007 for ?2.6m

Spain international Alvaro Arbeloa is set to complete his move to Real Madrid from Liverpool after passing a medical.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Reds for ?2.6m from Deportivo La Coruna in January 2007, will sign a five-year deal for a fee believed to be ?3.5m.

Right-back Arbeloa had one year left on his Anfield contract so could have left for free next summer.

Defender Glen Johnson's June arrival from Portsmouth paved the way for Reds manager Rafael Benitez to sell Arbeloa.

Switzerland international Philipp Degen is fit again after rib and lung injuries so is another option for Benitez at right-back, while Jamie Carragher can also play in that position.

Arbeloa first joined Real from Real Zaragoza as a 16-year-old and worked with Benitez, who was the club's youth team coach at the time.

He struggled to break into the first-team and left for Deportivo before moving to Anfield.

606: DEBATE

What do you make of Arbeloa's prospective exit?

"He's been subjected to a standard examination," said Real Madrid doctor Carlos Diez after Arbeloa's medical.

"The results of every test are very satisfactory. He is delighted about playing for Real Madrid. It's always been his dream. He can't wait to join his team-mates."

Arbeloa has spoken of his delight at moving to Madrid after failing to hold down a regular first-team place at Anfield.

"Since the door was opened to the possibility of coming here I was hoping for it to happen with all my heart, and I'm very happy to be able to return," Arbeloa told RealmadridTV.

"Not even in your best dreams can you imagine that you are going to be in the Real Madrid first team.

"Moreover, when you leave the club with the feeling of not being able to be in the first team, you know that it's very difficult to return, so for me, when this opportunity presented itself, my first objective was to take it and fortunately I'm here."

Arbeloa, who was part of Spain's Euro 2008-winning squad, scored two goals in 98 games for Liverpool and speculation had suggested he could join Real in a joint deal that would result in Xabi Alonso also leaving the Merseysiders.

However, a question mark over midfielder Alonso's future still remains as the club's players enjoy a three-day break before returning on Thursday.

Benitez has spoken to Alonso and urged him to stay at Anfield.

"I talked to Xabi and told him, as he can see here, that the fans love him and said to him 'Maybe you have to stay," said Benitez recently.

"You can see he is a really good player and I'll be really pleased if he stays. All the players and his team-mates want him to stay. If we keep Xabi I will be very pleased."

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is also keen for his Spanish international team-mate to stay at Anfield.

"It would be a bad piece of work if Xabi left - he plays his cards close to his chest so I don't know what is going to happen," Torres told The Sun.

"I'd put Xabi's own wishes ahead of everything else, of course, but he's got three years left on his contract with us and I'd love it if he stays.

"It would be a serious loss for Liverpool if he left this summer."

Liverpool are also believed to be close to selling Italian left-back Andrea Dossena to Napoli.

so Benitez is trying his ass off to keep xabi (thank god) and fernando wants him to stay which should help the situation.

Arbeloa is good as go:( :( (kinda saw that coming though, we have a lot of defenders, someone had to go) and dossena is on his way too.

im still hoping xabi stays though...

Here's the report I was talking abt earlier:

van der Vaart is also an option.. lets see what Rafa does.. he wants Aquilani according to recent reports but van der Vaart can be useful.. as can Wesley Sniejder..

i'd take van der vaart if keeping xabi is no longer an option

However, Liverpool have backroom stability, Newcastle where managed by idiots. Liverpool will not decay like Newcastle did.

And to be honest, having Ronaldo in the team will be a reason for me to not watch them I can't stand him as it is.

Backroom stability? I'm pretty sure the two Liverpool owners are not even on speaking terms. Plus Rafa kept falling out with Parry before he left the club. This was only kept from being bigger news by Newcastle's problems.

Yes, but Rafa has just signed a 5 year contract which he wouldn't have done if he didn't feel those issues where resolved. And I believe the owners are starting to sort things out now.

I'll admit I wish the sale to DiC had taken place, as they have the money to actually give the club some clout in the transfer market, but other than that things aren't too bad at the moment

Real Madrid have had an offer of ?32 million accepted by Liverpool for Xabi Alonso and a pre-accord has been sealed that will see the player move back to Spain this week, according to a report.

A meeting between the two clubs in Barcelona at the weekend saw a thaw in the frosty stand-off, and with Los Merengues showing some goodwill, an agreement was reached, Sport state.

Liverpool were holding out for ?30 million, while Madrid were keen to pay only ?30million, but the rise of ?2m has seen the Reds accept the offer.

The Spanish giants' director general, Jose Angel Sanchez, met with Liverpool's financial director, Christian Purslow, in a hotel within walking distance of Camp Nou.

Talks were friendly, but firm, Sport believe, with Madrid accepting that they would have to move their bid up if they were to persuade Liverpool to let the player go.

Alonso has made it clear that he wants to make the switch and become part of Florentino Perez's new look Galacticos, and for such a sum Rafa Benitez is willing to do business.

A deal with the player himself was reached weeks ago and he has had to remain patient while the two clubs postured and searched for a way forward, but now that has happened he can prepare for the transfer.

Before and after Liverpool's friendly against Espanyol in Barcelona on Sunday, Alonso, whose father Periko played for the Blaugrana, remained tight-lipped about joining Real Madrid.

According to Marca, Liverpool have signed Alberto Aquilani for 15.3 million (Pounds). Though Marca isn't the most reliable source.

I think this it the source though its hard to tell from the Spanish: http://www.marca.com/2009/08/03/futbol/fut...1249292420.html

Aquilani is a good player (Y)

I hope we hear something after Wednesday night, I'm still worried about midfield for Man Utd, Nani has the skill but he's very inconsistent.

Defender Philippe Senderos has completed a move from Arsenal to Everton, according to reports from the Swiss Football Federation.

The two clubs have not yet commented on the deal but the move has been touted for some days.

Senderson, 24, spent last season on loan in Italy, playing with Serie A giants AC Milan.

He still has one year remaining on his current contract with the Gunners.

According to the report, Senderos switched to Everton to improve his chances of winning a place in Switzerland's World Cup squad, should they qualify.

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell midfielder Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject to a medical.

The fee for the Spanish international is reported to be in the region of ?30m but Liverpool said the terms of the deal would remain confidential.

The 27-year-old joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in August 2004.
