Windows7even
Seems to be working ok. I don't use it on a regular basis so I don't know if it is missing some functionality. I used the Vista 64bit version with Vista Service Pack 1 compatibility mode. Hope this helps. awesome..thanks for the reply man! br0adband
What a waste of time running beta when eventually final release will be there and then you can play with OS. So it's a good thing you're not a beta tester, or else nothing would ever get fixed or improved until the OS is released it then becomes a 'pay for play' beta test instead of what it is now, which is basically free. Without beta testing, nobody outside of Microsoft and a privileged few would even know about the OS till release meaning all of us that do work on computers would be standing at the store when it hits the shelves just like the people that don't know anything about computers. We'd all be learning at the same time, and when someone calls to ask me to come fix their machines or help with an issue, I can't because I don't know anything more about the OS than they do - we just bought it at the same time. See how badly that works? Suffice to say, I'm glad you're not a beta tester. NEXT!!! fix-this!
i notice this build is much slower the 7048 even when booting. also there is still a nasty UAC bug when trying to install in compatibility mode. i hope this stuff gets worked out by the RC? if not we may have another vista on our hands. im almost tempted to uninstall this build totally! Luis Mazza
I don't know if it's the speed of my new computer or if this is something new, but now when I right click for example on an empty area of my desktop I no longer get that activity status icon, which I always hated in Windows, you know that little icon that's a blue circle in newer versions of windows and it used to be a sand clock in older versions,I used to get it for a fraction of a second before the Menu would pop up if I right click now, I instantly get the desktop context menu, can anyone confirm this is a change or is it the speed of my PC? I'm too lazy to install this build on my other computer atm. lol It`s a damn annoying vista characteristic. :) They finally fixed it. my machine now keeps rebooting when i put it into sleep mode. hope it gets fixed!! Try a BIOS update. It worked for me. Even using a beta bios now. Guest neo7
Slow boot in 7057: look for GoogleUpdate.exe process - kill the process and rename GoogleUpdate.exe to GoogleUpdate.ex_ - this should decrease boot time by 30 seconds at least. Now Google is the culprit! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/746140-windows-7-build-7057-x64/page/9/#findComment-590710376 Share on other sites

Now Google is the culprit! Hmm. Well I disabled it. Just make sure that you disable or delete the GoogleUpdateTaskUser in the Win7 Task Scheduler otherwise it might come back. Will have to check on my next restart and see if there is an improvement. In general, I just hate when applications have an updater running all the time in the background, even when the application itself is not in use. Pikey
Another problem, Media Player keeps forgetting it's library has something in it, updating through over 10k songs every time I start it isn't fun anymore, tried deleting the files @ %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player already, but it changed nothing, it still forgets them every time I restart it.This started after I manually cleared the library once because it started thinking there's 2 copies of every song. I was getting exactly that in 7048 .. it's OK now in 7057 .. I think the motto is don't screw too much with that folder!! If you want to reset the music library, remove your music folders temporarily via explorer is probably the best way to do it. +Elі Subscriber² Posted March 15, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted March 15, 2009 It`s a damn annoying vista characteristic. :) They finally fixed it. That's great; these was one of the things I hated in Windows; and it was present in XP too, I always wondered why that happened since no information about any icon or item had to be obtained, Another reason Win7 is already rocking! :) I still experience that in 7000 build.... but only for a fraction of a second ;) Yeah it was still happening in 7000 and it was also still present in 7048, This build is defenately a keeper. Guest neo7
Windows 7 x64: Search Suggestions (e.g. with Google or Live Search) don't work in ie8 ('An error occurred.'). In ie8-64-bit (same system) they work flawlessly, but this is not the default ie8 in Windows 7 x64 (64-bit ie8 does not support many important 32-bit add-ons like Adobe Flash). Any help? netwokz
Yeah, it was in 7048 too. Thanks for the reply.... i dont really have too many programs that i need to use compatibility mode for, so i wasn't sure. I'm going to go nuts and claim credit for that one as it's something I suggested on these forums. IT'S MINE! Your only using Windows 7 32bit. so your not gunna see your 8 gigs anytime. Udedenkz
Your not supposed to be able too, its just a dummy folder for legacy applications that links to the Users directory. My thing is why can't I just click on it and be taken to the users folder? If it is like a redirect, let it redirect me. It is gone now that I checked back hide system files. Now, on the other hand, I noticed that it uses now 800MB RAM, while 7000 build for me used more like 500 MB RAM, I wander what changed, hopefully it puts more of itself into RAM... I found a bug with WMP, where after an MP3 stops playing clicking the play again button makes the view corrupt for some reason (you know the music note that comes up, that becomes distorted thing that somewhat shows whats behind it... it fixed itself though after few min) that or it just, like, doesn't do anything. At vanilla boot, driver support is much better than XP64. Smart Battery is still that mysterious critter that I can't get a driver for (PM me if you have it for XP64 or 764). Scrolling with keyboard sometimes laggs. Like the page moves down smoothly, then more jaggedly. Odd. I like that it actually showed my mouse as having side scrolling abilities, epic win. Although, not tested and not really used either. I like the ability to turn off components, although I dislike that is simple and it doesn't have many options. I hope M$ will add more options to it and more components to it. Some UI is making my head hurt, but thats because I never used Vista. Small Icons for the win. In XP, there was a MMC that had a bunch of options from auditing, to recent, to history, to internet safety zones, to user policies. I need to find that again. One more thing, I seen users do is have multiple wallpapers that switch automatically, where is that setting?
