The Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5 installs the Windows Live ID online provider for Windows 7. This provider enables linking a Windows Live ID to a Windows 7 user account.

Windows 7 Internet access to home media using Live ID

never quite understood what the sign in assistant is supposed to do

It is supposedly makes it easy to setup network shares. If you have two Win7 computers with same live ID associated to local user account, you get access to network resources. I don't have two Win7 PCs to try it though.

but it gets installed on XP too

It seems to fix Windows Live Mail for me. I thought others might have the same issue that's why I posted it.

I use a Live Hotmail account, one from my ISP, and a G-mail account that I have linked all through Live Mail. Now Win7 can communicate with a Vista and an XP computer.

Helps me since I dual-boot Vista SP2 and Win7.

Anyone with a Windows Live ID and or Microsoft NET Passport linked to anything could be helped with this (I believe).
