tom01
The EasyList is the "main" subscription. It blocks and/or hides image ads, flash ads, script ads, iFrames... and also (by default) it will block many cookies, trackers, & spyware issues associated with those same blocked sites. All regular adblocking filter strings the filters in this subscription 'block' the ads from being downloaded. Before and After! So, how do I do it? Great! Where do I download the files from the video? A zip file is attached and linked downloads at the bottom. FAQ Q: Why is their a registry file included in the download?A: Internet Explorer does not enable InPrivate Filtering at startup. Q: Do I need to install any programs?A:No.Q: Does this work on previous Interner Explorer versions IE6/7?A: No, only Internet Explorer 8.Q: What about element hiding?A: Not at this time. claracc
Hallo, thanks to tom01 for doing the easylist for ads blocking in ie8. I have downloaded it and imported to the inprivate filter and it works very well blocking the ads. Any way i have some questions about it. I have observed that it has some addresses as .accounonline.com/cards or .adbrite.gif (these are only two) which are not blocked, ?why?. Also, is this file going to be updated in order to add new adware sites?. Thanks in advance, regards Clara Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/755520-easy-list-port-adblocking-in-ie8/#findComment-590846652 Share on other sites

The link you gave is not valid and adware sites will not be added as IE8 has it's own "Smart Screen Filter". Anarcho-Capitalist
Wow, thanks for this. I have a few friends who still use IE because it "works" and they've always been interested in FF for it's adblocking but are too stubborn to install it. At least now they'll get it's benefits. MightyJordan
I don't mean to sound like a git, but isn't it against the rules to talk about adblockers on Neowin? No, only if you talk about blocking Neowin ads specifically. claracc
Sorry, your going to have to be a bit more descriptive. The link you gave is not valid and adware sites will not be added as IE8 has it's own "Smart Screen Filter". Ok, I have explained it very bad. I mean, when i have imported the "easy" XML file into ie8, in the inprivate filter, the operation completes succesfully. Then, i see the rules in the inprivate filtering and the rules ".accountonline.com/card/svc/js/*.js" and ".adbrite.gif|" (there are some more) appear as allowed under the column status. So, i asked why some of the imported rules appeared with the satus allowed (i have blocked them in my filter). The other question is if the EasyListIE8.zip file will be updated in the future with more filtering rules or is not neccessary. Thanks, regards Clara Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/755520-easy-list-port-adblocking-in-ie8/#findComment-590846918 Share on other sites

The reason some rules are allowed is because the filter may interfere with a legit website. However, ".adbrite.gif" is allowed because websites use it as a "adblock detection" method and yes it will be updated in the future.
