There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

Though I doubt it I would love to see Diamond or Excalibur to return.

How can you expect Diamond or Excalibur to 'return'? It was more of a theory by journalists of a higher level UI tier than Aero. No one ever saw it as far as I know. It was only mentioned in some presentations.

I just don't see how they could hold that back until RTM. The XP theme was released at beta2 and their were still release candidate builds after that as was Aero. I guess if it's just a theme like Royale was then maybe that could happen although I wouldn't trust anything coming from this clown.

Are you talking about Aero Diamond?

It never existed, ever. Microsoft even confirmed the name was for something else. During the Beta's and RC's, people went mad thinking "Diamond is coming!!!!!" and it didn't because it wasn't meant for that.

Edit:

I had to go back and find the info.

In my quest to find out the truth about Aero Diamond, I got the official word from a Microsft manager who worked directly with or overlooked the codename “Diamond” project.

Diamond was the codename for the Media Center functionality in Vista. Aero is the codename/feature name for the 3D desktop.

There is no beta 2 for windows 7 ;)

I wouldn't mind if there is one or not. Hell Windows 7 looks good right now, but if they can make it look better, by all means. :)

I just want a darker theme, (sure I can turn by glass dark, but thats not the point) and I really want an official. I want darker explorer bars that are USER customizable.

Microsoft kept doing minor UI tweaks with XP as well and suddenly dropped in a new UI in RTM.
Which was highly criticized at the time. People thought it was a joke. I thought it was awesome and wanted to install XP from day 1, but that's me. I still love the XP look.
I'm pretty sure that it was beta 2 when the fisher-price interface was released for XP.
I thought it was RTM?

The "Luna" theme was introduced in Windows XP build 2428. See here.

It's highly unlikely that Microsoft would include a new UI in Windows 7. At this point, it's kinda late. Then again, it's not impossible. Perhaps Microsoft wants to differentiate Windows 7 from Windows Vista. In order to do so, they'd have to create a new UI for Windows 7.

Nothing wrong with the current UI. Anyways you people are reading far too much into it. There won't be any major UI changes only minor tweaks here and there. Yeah sure they may introduce a new theme or update the basic theme but I very much doubt that also.

I'd like to point out, that I believe we may see a new UI, but it won't replace aero. We will have aero as well as another one that will replace either aero basic or windows classic.

Why is it the the people from the UK always assume to much?

I agree somewhat, but theres just way to much glass, I my self had to turn up the color intensey just to tone down the transpareny, not to menton the ugly white toolbars in explorer. I'm wishing for a darker theme. Microsoft needs to understand that not everyone likes to be in a operating room.

I'm aware of the MC codename. However

Hmm. I have doubts. It would be nice but win7 is looking too tidy. I wouldn't bother changing it.

+1

Windows 7 is looking excellent. An [additional/i] theme option might be nice, but changing what is a great appearance as-is wouldn't be a good idea.

It has already been changed for the better. No more green command bar and things like that! I get the feeling that people are a little disappointed and were expecting Windows 7 to be radically different from Vista. It's not going to happen. What you see now is what you're gonna get, so live with it.

As for Windows Classic, there is no way that is going to change. Mainly because it is not actually a theme, it's what Windows looks like with all theming disabled. Basic is the look with a theme applied, but without composition. Neither of them are just "alternative themes."

I can sympathize with Windows being too bright these days though, and it's a shame that there is no way of toning it down slightly. I know a lot of people find bright screens unpleasant.

CommandBar is still green. Just the shine layer isn't transparent anymore.

all I'm disapointed about is the over usage of glass. I find that distracting when I have my windows maximized. I like how vista did it, and I hope that they will bring back that option. (thats something I see happening)

I knew it was gonna be the same, just a few small tweaks.

So "classic" is the same th- erm, "style" we had since Windows 1.0?

Like I said, I find darker themes more pleasant on the eyes. Makes things have better contrast and over all a plesent experience. I'm sure there will be 3rd party downloads, but its a shame microsoft can't see that not everyone likes bright themes.

I can't believe you're trying to argue that a bar whose only visible color is blue is green!

Its more white then blue.

To bad the bar (along with the menu bar) couldn't blend in with what ever you chose for your aero glass color. (by blending in, I don't mean having tons of color, but a light splash)

Takes 2 to argue. I can't believe you're going at this with me.

The gradient is still there and hasn't changed. That doesn't mean it's not there just because the overlay is no longer transparent.

In Vista and in 7 it's remains

Gradient1: 4, 80, 130

Gradient2: 17, 101, 132

Gradient3: 29, 121, 134

If you state that it's whitish-blue in 7 then I can call it completely transparent in Vista.

Wtf? Where do the rumors start? Lol.

Another NEW UI? Man..they just started using AERO with Vista. Why change it? I wonder if the new announcment is something to do with this? I know they have some surprises, but I thought they were going to Touch related and Enterprise related. Oh wel.
