Panda X
Wtf? Where do the rumors start? Lol.Another NEW UI? Man..they just started using AERO with Vista. Why change it? I wonder if the new announcment is something to do with this? I know they have some surprises, but I thought they were going to Touch related and Enterprise related. Oh wel. They just started using Luna with XP. Chris-Gonzales
Takes 2 to argue. I can't believe you're going at this with me. The gradient is still there and hasn't changed. That doesn't mean it's not there just because the overlay is no longer transparent. In Vista and in 7 it's remains Gradient1: 4, 80, 130 Gradient2: 17, 101, 132 Gradient3: 29, 121, 134 If you state that it's whitish-blue in 7 then I can call it completely transparent in Vista. Was this in the regestery? Panda X
Was this in the regestery? In Windows 7: In Aero.msstyles Class: CommandModule (#188) Part: #2 In Vista: In C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero\Shell\NormalColor\shellstyle.dll\UIFILE\1.xml Search for: <TemplateBackground background="Gradient(argb(255, 4, 80, 130), argb(255, 17, 101, 132), argb(255, 29, 121, 134), 3)" /> No you can't. Panda X
I do, but it's obvious what he means.Common sense ;) I know what he means. I said that technically it's still green under it. For anyone who finds it even the least bit interesting as to why Microsoft even though changed the code in DUIXML to point to the msstyles, redefined the colors there, still left it green and simply covered it up with a solid image. Stetson
I would really like a white text on dark background theme, kinda like the Darkroom theme that comes with Ubuntu. Currently, choosing a dark theme leaves the window text black with a white shadow and all of the shell toolbars and such are still bright. A few additional choices would be nice, kinda like the Zune and Royale Noir themes that were available for XP later on. hdood
all I'm disapointed about is the over usage of glass. I find that distracting when I have my windows maximized. I like how vista did it, and I hope that they will bring back that option. (thats something I see happening) I don't mind it, but I bet it depends on how transparent you have your window borders set. So "classic" is the same th- erm, "style" we had since Windows 1.0? Well, the same as Windows 95 -- with a few minor color tweaks over the years. Like I said, I find darker themes more pleasant on the eyes. Makes things have better contrast and over all a plesent experience. I'm sure there will be 3rd party downloads, but its a shame microsoft can't see that not everyone likes bright themes. Me too. I even use a gray shade as the background in all my editors. If it was possible to change the colors, I would do so in a hearbeat. Its more white then blue. To bad the bar (along with the menu bar) couldn't blend in with what ever you chose for your aero glass color. (by blending in, I don't mean having tons of color, but a light splash) It's a light blue gradient. The point was that it's no longer green (although don't get me wrong, Panda, what they actually changed is certainly interesting trivia). I completely agree that the colors should match, but sadly any chance of that happening went out the window when the theming service (which is separate from the compositor that draws the window borders) was introduced in XP. Previously (and still, with Classic) the colors were variables that could be changed whenever you wanted. Now they are hard-coded in the visual style (.msstyles file) and can't be changed on-the-fly. It can't even be done programatically, so it isn't even possible for a developer to change the colors of controls in his own application. A mistake in my opinion, but Microsoft really wanted to lock down the look and feel down. Electric Jolt
You people are picky, I really like Aero Glass and would rather just have Aero Glass than anything else and I am a big suck-up to eye candy. Windows 7 does not remind me of Windows Vista at all, Build 7000 did but Build 7077 does not. The only issue is that damn orb. So fugly. Subject Delta
I can't see a new UI coming at a point where development of new features is meant to be frozen, and it would be a big gamble from Microsoft. For me, the UI in 7 is already working well enough, I don't think it needs changing any further. John Freeman
No need for new ui. Maybe some nice touches here and there to difference it from vista, but no revamps - aero is fine. The only thing im not quite happy with is new bevel taskbar buttons (or call them whatever you want). Subject Delta
I was also wary of that at first, but now they have made it easier to identify what application is active, my misgivings about it are kind of gone, however I can see how it could still confuse a less technical minded user, as without the text labels it may be difficult for them to now what applications are running and what aren't. May necessitate the need for some training in the IT sector xD Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/759486-there-are-rumors-too-that-a-new-ui-is-coming/page/3/#findComment-590854122 Share on other sites
Chris-Gonzales
Why do people keep thinking a new UI will replace aero? Ever thought of an alternative theme to aero? Aero will still be there, but another theme will be there as an option? a new UI does not mean a replacement for aero. Hurmoth
If I remember correctly, Luna was only introduced in the RC stages for XP. No, actually RC1 was build 2505. Luna was introduced in build 2428. So it was introduced long before the RC was. But if MS has been working on this UI from the get go, then I don't see what the problem is. They just haven't included it in the builds that have been leaked. No different really than what Apple has been doing with Snow Leopard and the rumored new UI for it. I can't stand it when people pretend to know what is going on inside Microsoft, especially with Windows 7 considering how quiet MS has been with its development. If I am to believe anyone, unless Tom or Brandon come here saying it simply isn't true, I am going with what Paul has to say. He's got more connections at MS and in the business than most here do. I see no reason not to believe him. Kevin.
I'd be very surprised if a new UI came in this late in the game, but if the rumor is true, then all we can do is wait and see. MarkHawky
It was confirmed in te first few pages of it being introduced at beta 2 yep it was... Build 2428 (with a build tag of idx01.010129-1827) was released to testers and reviewers on February 13, 2001. There were not much changes from build 2419, except that it was the first build to contain the Luna theme. The boot screen and the logon screen has also been changed. then about 20 builds later was RC1... Build 2469 (with a build tag of idx02.010508-1228) was released to testers on May 12, 2001. Major changes to Networking and Net card drivers were implemented in this build. This build also included minor updates to the Home Network Wizard, the RAS client connection wizard; the Base, Kernel, Plug and Play and Power Management; performance, reliability, boot time, application launch, setup, uninstall, and Windows 98/ME upgrades; security & directory services, mainly new restrictions on local account login using blank passwords; and help, management, and remote desktop/assistance. Source: Wikipedia sorry my mistake it was build 2505, i looked at the Pre RC build ;) Anyway I'm not sure if they would or not, the only thing i would change about the current interface is that the toolbars change color to match aero like it does in Windows Live Messenger, and also the light blue navigation pane looks odd with a red theme so like the toolbar this could change to match aero color too Edited April 14, 2009 by MarkHawky Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/759486-there-are-rumors-too-that-a-new-ui-is-coming/page/3/#findComment-590854192 Share on other sites
