There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

so your saying because its a vista visual, it needs to go? With that logic aero would need to go (thats a "vista visual" ) Not every new OS has a brand spanking new UI.

That's nothing like what I said. I said it should go because it looks out of place in this new taskbar and the only reason I called it a Vista orb is because well, it's from Vista. What else do you want me to call it? I didn't like the orb when it was in Vista either.

Also, to your other question, yeah it looks fine when using the smaller taskbar but not all features work in the smaller taskbar (ex : wlm status doesn't display in the smaller taskbar (and i doubt that it will change)).

The Start Orb is a Orb and not a normal icon because it has to stand out and be different from the rest of the pinned icons which are programs and not the start menu.

You can't have it just be an icon with the windows flag itself, they keep the Orb because people know that's the start menu that way and not some program. Simple stuff really.

I've never seen that video.

Aspects of that user interface look fantastic, but unfortunately I highly doubt much, if any, of that will happen :(

I, personally, think it's unlikely we will see a major overhaul, but I'm hoping otherwise.

Hey! I saw another version of this video showing the future of the Aero theme while I was beta-testing Vista, but I never found it again. I think this new UI may be taking place now.

There's even SeaDragon for the iPhone with those animations and Apple has said they're developing a 3D interface for Leopard.

It's very possible that this new UI will be launched now. Makes perfect sense because Win7 has the support for 3D rendering in realtime even without a 3D graphics accelerator. So it makes a lot of sense.

Looking forward to it! :woot:

Windows orb

simple as that.

Only a complete idiot would get the start button confused with another program. Again it's not like someone clicks it and says "I keep clicking it and some weird menu opens. I'm just trying to run WinVer."

It's obvious it's for the start menu based on its location alone. It's always been there in that corner and never changes.

I agree with consume. It looks better to just have a flag there. Everyone will know what it does. It's not like someone clicks it and says "I keep clicking it and some weird menu opens. I'm just trying to run WinVer."

just call it an orb. Like I said before, it only looks out of place because its on the large taskbar. With the classic, it looks fine.

So tell me something, with the classic mode, that I'm showing you here, would the flag look better, or will it look ugly? The start BUTTON needs some sort of design to it and not just plain and ugly

Looks fine on small taskbar. I have no problem with that. Just the large taskbar...

Remember guys, windows is made for EVERYONE not just you. The orb is fine, and I'm sure its here to stay, your just not liking it because its out of place on the NEW taskbar, when classic mode it looks fine. Remember, microsoft kept the old view, so you can always go back to it

plus, it only looks out of place on the new, larger taskbar, but on the classic mode it looks fine

If it looks out of place on any configuration then it needs changing, especially as that is the default configuration and also one which many will use by choice.

If Microsoft get enough feedback that it looks out of place then there is a good chance they will change it.

Fingers crossed then, but I'm not getting my hopes up :p

Like I said before, it's fine that way actually. However not all things work as advertised with the smaller taskbar.

I doubt it. It has a nice design to it on the classic mode. It's not like it sticks out of there to much, what about the display picture in the start menu, and the right hand side icons? You gonna say "its out of place"

I agree it could use some work on the new mode (larger perhaps) but just having the flag is stupid. Not everyone is a power user

Well the smaller one is there who refuse to move on in life.

Why do you keep calling it Classic mode. It's not classic. It's small. Small taskbar. Legacy taskbar makes more sense than Classic.

I have no problem with things sticking out and I love how the display picture is in the start menu.

The start orb does not annoy me that much but it might be nice for it to be bigger when the taskbar is in it's default state (large icons). I'd like it to stick over the top as it does when the taskbar is set to display small icons (and then the orb could become the size it currently is when small icons is set).

Ideally there could be a better design than the orb, like a windows flag which is a big larger and maybe diagonal. Just a suggestion ;)

Either way, it needs some tweaking or a replacement in my opinion.

The "name" is small, but its technically the classic, as from 95-vista we had that size of taskbar, add never combine and add a few of your most used programs and you have a "classic" looking taskbar.

oh alright cool .

When i posted that picture, I had this in mind. It's my amazing photoshop job on the taskbar : 14k8j1j.png

I think i remember seeing this instead of what we have now as the superbar during that windows conference or something (the one where that lady demonstrated the touchscreen capibilites in windows 7)
