UncleSpellbinder
The bottom line is that the orb is here to stay, at least in Vista and 7. Some love it, some hate and some couldn't care less. As I said earlier, Microsoft cannot ever hope to make all of us happy with every aspect of 7. Love it or hate it, the orb is here. hdood
Perhaps make the orb transparent so what ever color you have on your taskbar, thats the color the orb will be? May be remove all color from the orb and just have it white Maybe not transparent, but it shouldn't be difficult at all to make it a color that contrasts well with the background. Although, when I think about it, making it transparent (but with a clearly defined border) like the taskbar tabs might not be so bad. I mean, it'd still be a circle and stand out fairly well. consume
What does a flag have to do with windows in the first place? I can see the old flag, but thats outdated. After all, having it be transparent would be the right thing, since transparent will be like a "window", to see though, and to have a life with out walls  Having it just be the flag was just a suggestion. It doesn't really matter what it is as long as it's not the orb it is now. And yeah, it probably won't change but i'd like it to. lol, i like the post below me Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/759486-there-are-rumors-too-that-a-new-ui-is-coming/page/7/#findComment-590854978 Share on other sites

mdtaUK
come on people, there is no need to argue. We can all agree that the start menu button is not the same as the pinned icons or open windows, and as such should look different. Now you could argue that its time to bring back the start text, to seperate it from the other icons, or make the orb overhang so it does something no other icon can do. cwpenner
For those of you complaining, for god's sake go back to Windows 98 if you loved that so much. Do you realize what you're whining about? The start "orb", and do you realize how minor it really is? You press it, and the start menu pops up. Who cares what it looks like FFS, sure it would be nice if it was aesthetically pleasing, and right now it is, but it does what it's supposed to. Do you really need it to say START so you don't confuse it with other icons on the taskbar? Then go back to Windows 98 so you can have your "classic theme" too, cuz apparently Luna was too "fisher-price" for a lot of people... Windows 7 is the natural evolution of the OS, just like everything else in this world evolves; If you don't like change, stop complaining and use what you're comfortable with. Abacii are cheap these days... I for one appreciate the work they've done on Windows 7, as I'm sure many people here do, and I think it will shape up to be Microsoft's best OS yet. The improvements in the UI they've made so far are leaps and bounds over what existed in the past, so I'm going to welcome the changes for their usefulness and not get into a heated argument over a little orb... Chris-Gonzales
the only gripe I have over the orb is the hover over effect needs to be toned down a little. 7057 is a bit to much Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/759486-there-are-rumors-too-that-a-new-ui-is-coming/page/7/#findComment-590855050 Share on other sites
winlonghorn
Who really cares? People will call it what ever they want. Its not a crime. One thing I know is that I loved the animated flag from that start menu concept in the longhorn days. Subtle animation of the Start Orb Flag would be cool. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/759486-there-are-rumors-too-that-a-new-ui-is-coming/page/7/#findComment-590855060 Share on other sites

Best post in the entire topic so far, and I couldn't agree with you more! I absolutely love Windows 7's UI at the moment. Yeah, it's not perfect, but what is? If a new UI comes, then it comes. Osiris
every OS everyone always makes late predictions that MS are gonna stun us with some new UI or special effect we havent known about and everytime its nothing. That being said id love to see a clock or animation on my logon/lock screen, that'd be a nice surprise. Denis W. Veteran Posted April 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) Its not a window though, its actually an extension of the task bar. (if you really look at it and think. What do you think those WLMessenger toasts are? Heck, since you mentioned the taskbar. The Start button in Vista/7 is also a top level window, which is why it had that bulge in Vista and with a small taskbar in Windows 7. (reference) --------------------------------------------- On topic, I don't mind the Orb in its current state. But they could add some shine to the part of the taskbar behind the orb to visually separate it from the rest of the taskbar. Also, as much as I'd like to see some new theme hit us before RTM, if they really had a theme prepared, tell me - why did they bother messing with the active taskbar button for 7077? Why do those buttons on 7077 look rounder than other builds? And say the leak never happened - what good is it for only MS employees to see these tweaks when they're fully aware that a new theme is in the works? dmb219
I think W7 looks great as it is and it is certainly a success already. I wouldn't be surprised if there are last minute tweaks but it is visually appealing now and the updates to the OS are excellent, libraries for one, more efficient use of hardware too. They hit the nail on the head this time and anything beyond this point is icing on the cake. Qumahlin
Sorry, but you don't release a new UI in the RTM phase of things. Even Microsoft isn't that stupid. Zain Adeel
what i think.. there wont be a totally new UI.. but yes.. a new theme can be in the making. Ive seen some big irregularities in the current aero theme which hasnt been fixed since the beta.. i dont know why its not being fixed.. maybe because they want to make a new theme.. The only changes are the icons and the start menu.. Wen u mouse over to the show desktop bar.. notice the white shades on the edges of every window open.. they arent equal nor are the well done.
