There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

Do not expect a new UI as drastic as Office 2007 was. That UI was in the early stages of the beta and required a lot of testing. Microsoft cannot dump anything drastic on us, it's too late in the development for that to happen.

Also, Windows XP was testing a new theming engine, and all Luna was, was a new theme, that's it, not a drastic thing.

I could imagine they had new animations or something, but be prepared to be disappointed if you want the office Ribbon in Windows or anything of the sort.

How can you guys say "It's too late" to spring a new UI on us?.... Have you already forgotten that it wasn't until RC/RTM when XP and vista got their finalized UI's? I'm just saying..... It's kinda funny to hear people say its too late, when MS has a history of dropping the new UI bomb very late in the game.

I am not sure why people keep saying this. Both XP and Vista had their final UI in place in the beta stage. Sure, there may have been some tweaks and polishes from that stage to RTM, but nothing that could be considered a "new UI." Check here, Vista build 5365 (pre-beta 2) with the new UI in place.

Again, here is the same with XP. New UI introduced in Beta 2.

What? Have you bothered to read the thread at all? It was proven several times on various pages in this thread that XP had it's final UI (Theme) in

place in beta. Not to mention B.Wolken's post above. Hope this "it wasn't until RC/RTM when XP and vista got their finalized UI's" can FINALLY be

put to rest. Because repeating false statements to prove a point is quite pointless.

It was still BETA....Before RC/RTM.

People need to know that UI means User Interface, new 'User Interface' would be something new, not a bloody new theme.

Most know that. The terms in this thread seem to have become interchangeable. Why? I don't know. But just to clear things up, I edited my post above.

a new "interface" now would be unnecessary being that it would need testing. A new theme however would not be bad. Honestly Aero is just fine though, but the Windows Basic theme really needs work its just ugly it should just be Aero without transparency.

new Windows Basic theme (Y) (Y)

Agreed.

I think a new UI would be nice ... in terms of the theme for it .... Windows Vista was never anywhere NEAR as nice looking as some of the best custom themes made by amatuers or dare I say it, as good as MacOSX? I think with all the cash Microsoft has, Vista's theme and Windows 7's theme (less so as it's tidier and better than Vista in some respects) should have been triple A quality. It stuns me that it was released as ugly as it was. One thing I never did when I used XP was try and run a Vista styled theme. It's positively hideous.

Luna Element destroys any UI that MS ever released, although it is dated now, it's proof that you don't have to have billions in the bank to have some style and class :)

I'll take that as the confirmation that we won't see anything new anymore.

(would seem strange to me if they did do something new since there will only be one RC so they won't have time to iron quirks out)

Windows 7 UI looks good to me. Not sure what else could be done as far as consistency but i will probably install Windows 7 RC on my laptop to send additional feedback to Microsoft.

Is MS planning to fix Intel i7 CPU Frequency Detection. It doesn't read it propertly. Thanks.

Well he does go off to France every now and then so he's probably takin in that red wine a little more strongly this time of year

Does anyone else think it's strange that we haven't seen any screenshots of any builds newer than 7077 since this news came out.

Maybe there is something in it...

Does Brandon work for MS though?

Yes he does work for Microsoft, he's part of the Windows Development Team.

Look at the top of the new office 2010....maybe thats a new theme for windows 7? :o out14-revised.png

And i don't mean the ribbon interface. I mean how the top of the window seemlessly fades into aero....

This whole time I thought Windows was moving to tone down the glass, not add even more.
