There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't mind a new UI but I've grown used to the current UI and expect it in the RTM so I'd be disappointed if they decided to scrap the current UI. The current UI is different enough to tell it's part of a new version of Windows but similar enough to Vista that it won't confuse veteran Windows users. They went with the perfect mix of similar yet different imho. Any departure from that now will be kind of silly. That's why I hope if there is a new UI, it's tacked on as an extra or something.

What theme is that? I want it.
How did you make this? :p
I want it! Explain yourself! :p

Sorry I should have made myself clear! I just googled Windows 7 concepts and that was one that stood out! Please don't stone me

It is nice though - very 'sleek'!

Like I said aslong as I can find my way arround I couldn't care if it was pasted with the words "****" or just in plain dos.

I know. I'm saying if people like you ran windows, we'd be using those types of designs still. Design counts for the amount sold.

They could add new animations to Aero with a new theme and buttons. That doesn't require a lot of beta testing and it's perfectly possible.

Exactly. It will still use the aero code and DWM, but it will have a different look.

Darn. Looks great though. Thanks for clearing it up.

So it is. To credit the original author you can click this link below to get to the page hosting it:

Looks too much like Ubuntu to me, with all that brown. "Look, it's Ubundows!!!" ;)

Awwwww...its fake. :( I was really excited too.

:p

sophisticated != complicated
I hate to go off topic for a penis-measuring contest, but you're wrong:

"sophisticated" from the OED:

1. deprived of primitive simplicity or naturalness

2. not plain, honest, or straightforward.

Oh, and this:

Anyway, sorry for being being a dick. We probably agree with each other when it comes down to what we want from Windows 7. Tsch?ss!

Mark my words, the start menu along with the orb is going to die, and it wont be around in the RC...

Sorry but I really don't see that happening at all, what about the modifications that have been done to the start menu and the orb so far? they made them for nothing? I really don't think so, I'm sure Microsoft will show us a new theme and icons before RTM but that's about it, all the new GUI people speculate about will be just that, watch.

I sorta think MS should definitely change up the UI. I'm "fine" with the current one, but wouldnt mind a change. But more importantly, if MS wants to get away from the bad Vista vibe, they need a new UI. The UI is the desktop, its what a user first sees. They dont see the stability or security, but whats right in front of their eyes.

If MS keeps the current UI I bet alot of users will say "oh, its still just windows". If MS decides to get creative and innovative, they can draw a ton of attention. The media along with all the power users such as ourselves, we'll get it out there to the casual user that the new Windows is here, and that its different.

I personally like how it looks, but as the above poster said, if they want to remove the bad publicity from Vista, they need to get rid of the current look. I personally love Vista, but hey, it's what Apple's done to tarnish the name.

no.

  1. Jump lists in start menu
  2. Search
  3. search results in the whole width
  4. Easier way to change what the power button does

plus many more.

And that doesn't mean add more glass and splash a fresh coat of white paint in explorer windows.

Hmmm... maybe there really will be some major changes to the Start menu. There are a lot of small things that let me think there could be something in the air:

  • Start menu isn't so important now because of the new Taskbar and Jump Lists
  • They have removed the classic Start menu
  • There are still some minor issues with the Start menu in the latest builds

But this is all just speculation. They also could change some design elements like gradients on buttons and Window borders. There may also be some hints I wanne point out:

  • they haven't change a single thing on the Basic theme visually, but there was some work behind it. Remember it was broken in a lot of early builds?
  • they have changed how the X is drawn in the caption button (If you change DPI, you do not get rounded corners on the X) But why?
  • they haven't addressed one issue that was pointed out often: readability of the window title text
  • the Gadgets will definitely be changed because it's easy and at leasts the calendar icon is outdated
  • why does Calculator and the new Scenic Ribbon apps have an orange highlight color from Office 2007 while the whole system still uses blue?
  • what was Julie Larson-Green's team doing in the last tree years?

Don't forget how they have tried to hide the new Taskbar to us. They have learned one or two things since then. ;) So it is not completely impossible that they will introduce some changes.

But it's just my speculation ;)

I don't like Paul Thurrott very much, and I don't like the fact that everyone calls it "UI". Let's just say a new inspiration for the theme, maybe.

Quite exciting and all, but I wouldn't be able to imagine how it would look. I can see quite clearly what the changes in Aero are from Vista to 7, even though I perfectly understand that that's probably just me :p

Couldn't agree more. I love glass, but bring back the dark bars when windows are maximised. It's way too distracting at the moment in apps like Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. to see the glass in an otherwise exclusive (to the app) environment.

This was changed in Windows 7 because even more people complained about the lack of transparency when windows are maximized.

I guess Microsoft just can't please everyone.

would be nice imo, if theyll take advantage of one old longhorn concepts:

a nice photorealistic gui thats what i want...

People are already having heart attacks over the "huge" taskbar in Windows 7. So how do you think they'd respond to this, with an even larger taskbar?
