There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

That's why i was saying that it was better just to keep Windows Vista, and have this as Windows Vista R2 release or simply Windows Vista SP2

Wouldn't that make even more people say "That's Vista right?"? ;) It makes sense to make a new version of Windows which has new features and is much more improved in performance and security; allowing many to forget about Windows Vista and move on, as quick as possible.

There are so many improvements and changes that with a new theme, Windows 7 should really be a major release in my opinion and not classed as a minor release. I mean the taskbar has even gone through such a major change.

It annoys me greatly that people look at a theme and assume it is the same as the previous version, without looking at the back-end changes and improvements.

I think Windows 7 needs a new theme solely for that reason. People will look at it and assume it is just Windows Vista or will assume it is bad (even though Windows Vista was much better, for me, than Windows XP ever was).

I don't mind the current theme in Windows 7, but sometimes the glass can annoy me. I think I would much prefer it if it wasn't blurry and if it was just totally clear, to be honest. They could do a much better theme, but then again it is currently much better than Luna or Royale, in my opinion.

I've gotten a tip that <snipped> (what appears to be a new aero theme) is going to be in windows 7

Where did you get this tip from? :)

Windows will be fast if your system is fast.

just like we did with ME

note, i'm not saying vista is another ME. I infact like vista, but hate the people who bash it because of silly reasons

Royale was nice and I liked it. Darker hues, much more professional. More like a $100 + fisher price toy, then what luna was, ($20 or bellow)

I tried all clear from this tip here but i didn't like it. I kept getting my windows mixed up

Ooo is that Outlook 14? That theme does look neat.

My office 2007 theme is set to black, as its more easer on the eyes, not to menton better when typing (focus on on the paper, not the ugly baby blue theme)

many dont know you can change the theme in office.

I bet she's a blonde

You are aware I take it that the English spoke the English language first? Its the rest of the world that has bastardised the language to its current level.

Just like a the replacement of the letter s with z by the US

True, but the personalty and speech of them some times drives me nuts

Simon Cowell, now theres a diferent story

Uh I set mine to black too, but Office 2007 does not have a ribbon in Outlook...

Hopefully there will be a new theme. It doesn't even have to be a radical change either.

Also, it would be nice if Microsoft allowed further customization such as the amount of "blur" as well as the ability to turn aero black when maximized. Why not satisfy all camps and have an on and off button for it.

Also, it would be nice to just get rid of the orb and slab a nice looking windows icon, keeping the taskbar flat all the way through, especially when we use the "small taskbar" option...that orb seems huge...

how about a menu button with the (white) flag in it?

guys, just look at video in this post: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090417/...-concept-video/ :o

module shortcut - it isnt an amazing idea?

Not bad, but wouldn't call it amazing. There were much better ideas than that in it, like the greatly improved Explorer.

Anyone remember the "longhorn concept" in 2003 ?

Looked pretty good indeed. It's really sad that they had so many good stuff, and then took three more years to turn it into the garbage that was Vista :x

Look at the top of the new office 2010....maybe thats a new theme for windows 7? :o

And i don't mean the ribbon interface. I mean how the top of the window seemlessly fades into aero....

That's nothing to do with a new theme, that's a new multi-functional titlebar. They already had the first beginnings of it in Office 12 (2007) and are now extending it in Office 14.

I don't think so. I wasn't talking about the ribbon interface, i mean how it fades from solid to aero (from ribbon to titlebar (the empty space))

How's that more functional? Or are you referring to that carrot next to the help button.....hrm

All the people saying 7 resembles Vista too much, so what? It's Windows, it's not going to change dramatically from one version to the next, that just raises costs for business and they don't like it.

Besides 7 resembles Vista which resembles XP which resembles 2k and so on. All we've been getting is evolutions of the same basic UI over the years. Don't expect the same sorta drastic change like what we had from 3.x to 95.

Not anytime soon anyways.

It's weird, it's like there's something preventing people from noticing the blindingly obvious thing you're talking about :p it's only been described six or seven times now ;)

At first I was like, carrot? What carrot?

I think you mean caret. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caret

Methinks it could be a button to collapse the toolbar - as double clicking the tabs is not exactly intuitive.

Well he does go off to France every now and then so he's probably takin in that red wine a little more strongly this time of year

Yes he does work for Microsoft, he's part of the Windows Development Team.

Wow, I wish I could work for Microsoft, though I do work for one of Microsoft's Gold Partner...:D

wow this thread is so off topic.

So what we are saying is, the rumor is that Windows 7 UI as we see it now, will not be the final version? As in we think they are going to change the entire look of what we see now (taskbar/etc?)

This would be nice if something like this is implemented, http://thorwil.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/po...r-concept-demo/

Granted the scrollwheel on the mouse is good substitute.

A new Flip3D is arriving in Windows 7 RC..

... and how exactly would you know that?

They added the new theme to Windows 7 in the RC!

ummm..... OH no! Its horrible!!!

windows7-conceptart.jpg

Concept art from the end of '07. I'm glad they didn't put that circle crap in the middle into the actual Win7.
