There are rumors too that a new UI is coming!

what i think..

there wont be a totally new UI..

but yes.. a new theme can be in the making.

Ive seen some big irregularities in the current aero theme which hasnt been fixed since the beta..

i dont know why its not being fixed.. maybe because they want to make a new theme..

The only changes are the icons and the start menu..

Wen u mouse over to the show desktop bar..

notice the white shades on the edges of every window open.. they arent equal nor are the well done.

Um, no clue what your talking about, the "white shades" are just fine on my computer and i'm not sure how exactly you want them to make an outline more "Well done". IT's the outline of the window...if it doesn't look how it does currently then it wouldn't be an outline...

So you admit its a menu now? What is it? Menu or Window? Can't be both?

Is it pedant night?! From a user perspective, it's a popup menu attached to the taskbar. You click the start button and a menu of choices pops up.

From a technical perspective, it's not a menu (nor does it contain any menus), but rather a custom popup window without a titlebar that contains treeviews, listviews, buttons and edit boxes and that just happens to be positioned near the lower left corner of the screen. Does anyone actually care? I doubt it.

one more thing..

im pretty happy with the current UI.. its very different from Vista.. run both of them side by side and ull c..

but they should tweak it more.. make it perfect.. some light blue gradients in the window dont match..and are off at places..

And yes.. one more thing.. All i wish for is a very customizable themeing application with windows.. that would solve everybodys problem..

hy did they bother messing with the active taskbar button for 7077? Why do those buttons on 7077 look rounder than other builds?

What button is that? care to show a shot?

Yeah, MS isn't that stupid. Besides, whats so horrible about the interface? The biggest mistake would be to make another change in how Windows looks just after people got used to it in Vista.

Who says it would replace aero? Ever thought of a seprete theme?

problem is theres to much glass, and thats distracting to a lot.

.

change toolbars in explorer on the fly? like color labeling? that could happen,

Sorry, but you don't release a new UI in the RTM phase of things. Even Microsoft isn't that stupid.

I disagree though. I remember around 18 months ago, Steve saying that this Windows building process is a huge deal, and is working to ensure leaks do not happen. I'm thinking that perhaps a UI change is what they've managed to keep from leaking. If there's a few trunks of Windows, and, say that they've been working on a brand new UI since they started working on Windows 7, I don't see any logical reason to not bring it out now. It would have had enough time to incubate, and would create even more attention and hype for them, because it's something no-one's seen.

Just what they want. If they do it right.

unseen = untested.

If they were to release a brand new UI in the RTM build without it having been present in any other version, it will unquestionably be full of bugs and glitches.

The UI that is currently present is already an improvement over what existed before, and makes sense to release as it has been tested extensively.

That said, I liked the older taskbar buttons more than the newer ones in 7077.. the old active window indicator seemed to be less frosted.

It may have under gone testing in an internal forked build, and if it is just a change to the UI and not the plumbing which works it all, it may not lead to any bugs, especially if it uses the same Aero DWM

Now thats something more reasonable.

Aussie, stay out of this part of the forum. Windows 7 isn't Windows Vista with a new theme, go back and start researching before jumping in and making stupid comments like that.

I'm sure Brandon Live will give you a bullet point of all the major changes there are in Windows 7 compared to that of Windows Vista.

As I keep saying, a new UI DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL REPLACE AERO.

just one reason why many people hate vista. They listen to people like you who know nothing about what they are talking about.

Getting a new UI that doesn't have any Vista resemblance at all is an excellent idea. Shouldn't be a major uprising to change the default theme a little. Right now my 2 cents says the general public is hearing that Windows 7 is just a stripped down version of Vista. Thats not good for MS.

Please refer to this post: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;p=590823506

and the ones following it. Take a closer look at the taskbar buttons for the unselected and selected states.

Compare them to the taskbar buttons from about 6956 (I think?) to 7068.

Well, without any out of the box programs, then yes it is. If the EU would take a chill pill, Microsoft could provide some sort of out of the box programs to get people started.

I don't think PT will lie to get some hits, but given the amount of thought and tweaking that went behind the current UI, especially the superbar, I can't help to think that this won't happen.

You can still have the superbar as well as the new UI. they won't be replacing aero

Thank you! Exactly what I was thinking. This kinda crap drives me crazy.

after doing some research, i feel the term new "ui" is missleading.

the ui has more or less stayed the same since 95. desktop, taskbar, start button, quick launch, notification area, and now peek, 3d flip (that ive never seen used by anyone), that program preview when u hover over the program icon in the taskbar.

the theme covers aesthetics, common controls such as buttons and radio buttons, task dialogs, wizards, common dialogs, control panels, icons, fonts, user notifications, and the "tone" of text used. so more or less, the colour/how it visually looks

whats new may be a theme. xp had luna (introduced beta2), royale

vista had plax, slate and jade in the builds then introduced aero in beta1

so this new theme might be up update, aero2

I don't think anyone is under the assumption that "ui" means a full overhaul of the interface.

im just saying calling it a ui revamp is the wrong name. the theme is changing, not the ui. my 2c
