Yusuf M. Veteran Posted April 19, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 19, 2009 Most likely that is to make it easier to use with multitouch. :) Yep, I figured they did that to make it more touch friendly. It's no biggie. I'm sure I'll get used to it. primexx
^ no, the touch friendly giant-size buttons only activate if you have a touchscreen. not working with aero snap is pretty pathetic for MS's flagship product, hopefully they just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet and will for the RTM Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/761160-office-2010-ribbon-now-with-more-glass/page/2/#findComment-590875160 Share on other sites
ScorpioRGc1
Looks awesome! DSLJay
I agree, it looks pretty sweet. The voice mail message is also kind of cool. Trong
Very nice! Hmm, looks nice... but they better make sure it works with Aero Snap. Office 2007 does not. (Actually, neither does Google Chrome or Safari 4.)IE8 does though, so I hope they can get it right. Strange, Aero Snap works for Office '07 on 7000 for me. Unknown_97784568745
IMO there's a lot of wasted screen estate. You can minimize the ribbon. ViperAFK
So they take a screenshot to show the glass and the cover half of the glass with black. Way2 fail at screenshots. Garry
That looks like an absolutely car crash. Too much function over form - they really need to find a balance. It's nice to be able to *do* all those things with just one click, but Microsoft need to remember that not all Office users are IT geeks and will simply be overwhelmed by all the buttons. DrunkenBeard
@Garry, - Actually the Ribbon makes working with a lot of functions really easy because all these buttons you see are not put in random positions. First there are categories (New, Delete, Respond, Custom Quick Steps, Actions, Tags and Find), those are actually the most common things you do with mail. Second the buttons don't have the same size, for example in the "Delete" section, the "Delete" button is very big while "Ignore", "Clean-up" or "Junk" are smaller even if they also belong to the "Delete" idea. The Ribbon is an absolutely awesome feature if you just take the time to look at it and memorize its categories (which is very easy) before starting using it. Do that and you'll find yourself doing your daily tasks really really fast. Jamushroom Veteran Posted April 19, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 19, 2009 So, am I the only one who doesn't like the fade in the Ribbon? Also, I hope that the Ribbon gets the colors from the Windows 7 toolbar. Soldiers33
kl i like that. they should make the whole ribbon thing transparent? Ambroos
Really? Including restoring the window (from the maximised state)? In build 7000, maximising and snapping to the left/right edges works, but not restoring. Nope, restoring doesn't work in Windows 7 build 7077 with Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but we still have doubleclicking the titlebar for that! That "Quick Steps" section really is just over the top and could be a ribbon tab in itself theres that many small icons crammed into it. I assume that won't be there by default mind..."Forward to Manager" ect hardly seems like functionality most people need on the very front menu. PyX
I don't really understand why, but the design looks dirty IMO. Same for Office 2007. But it's nice to see the Ribbon being deployed in every app part of the suite, finally. My father was like that with Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2007. But after a month, he learned where everything is located, and now does his job much faster than with Office 2003. I saw him few days ago using Word 2003. He got lost in the menus, trying to find something that could have taken him only seconds with the ribbon. Yes, after using Office 2007, using Office 2003 is a real pain in the ass :x Anyway, Office 2010 looks good so far. Beta should start later this year, I'm already curious.
