Purple line on laptop screen

Recommended Posts

So if it is a problem with my display what would that mean exactly?

**EDIT** I just moved the pic I showed you guys away from the line, and yeah you guys cant see it like I can, sorry. The line is ultra thin but like I said, vertical the whole way down...

Sounds like a problem with the screen. Probably a loose cable, although the screen itself might be going bad.

Its a hardware issue, not a software problem.

Something is physically wrong with your screen. Have you dropped or ever banged your laptop into something?

Thats what I was thinking, because I was fully unable to see what was trying to be pointed out ><"

Im guessing you either dropped it or someone hit it :s

thats what generally causes those sort of things in the screen right?

^ Check your warranty. See if you still have one.

My friend takes REALLY good care of his laptop, but moves it ALL day everyday. To school(high school but its an acdemy he goes to, so they allow it) and home. But also peoples houses and etc.

Despite using a laptop padded bag and etc, after only about 8 months owning the laptop, screen went dead. Laptop was on, external display worked(meaning its was the gcard(thank GOD!)) So, we rang up toshiba(his manufacturer) and they siad he's covered, sent him a 2 day box, he sent it back, found out the DC cable is where the LCD Screen cable is by, and it wasnt properly seated in to begin with(from factory) and the fact that he uses it so much, plugging in his DC in and out and in and out any pressure and it loosened up the cable to the LCD Screen.

I know weird, but the tech wrote out the statement on the peice of paper included in the box + an email. He said that next time we can do it ourselves and toshiba still covers us, sent us a PDF How to.

As far as it goes, he LOVES toshiba now. Great GREAT customer support, and if its ever out of warranty and its something like this, they will cover it.

So i say check your warranty with your company first, and see what comes up.

I had this problem with a Toshiba Equium L20 Laptop but was multiple vertical lines depending on the angle of the screen, phoned up tech support and explained, they sent a box and it was back with me within a week or so, a few months later the warranty expired and the screen developed another fault, this time horizontal lines, It did go to and from school with me though but was in a proper laptop bag and it was never really knocked about, i was just unlucky i suppose! My sister had the same laptop and it's still going now but my friend has it only thing he has to do is replace the CPU fan because its wearing out.

If your laptop is in warranty phone them up, if not still phone them up and see where you stand :)

you can pretty much pretty much bet its an LCD issue, problem with the vid card wouldn't be that local

I'm almost positive that it is physical damage, in which case little can be done, check warranty, if that is void then, new laptop.

If I am wrong and it is graphic card error, as long as its external that is fixable, so lets hope its that.

Well its only one line, this computer cost to much to just junk it, I can live with it, I was just hoping there would be a fairly reasonable fix to this...

I'll try the other screen hook up.. I dont have access to one though, could I hook it up to another laptop?

It is your screen. I guarantee it. Absolutely no doubt about that.

The best way to deal with it is to hook it up to an external display or a TV with VGA output (99% of LCD TV's have this) and just use it like that. Otherwise live with the line.

You should be glad it's just a single line!

It can't be the graphics card. If it was, it'd move position each time the display comes on.

  • 1 month later...

Hey, its been a few weeks, now I have a yellow line going down my screen with the purple line.

Is there any reliable site I can buy a replacement screen for this? Is it something I can replace myself? And is it worth it? I bought this laptop 4 years ago and payed close to 3k

check which laptop is is, alot of the new more expensive toshiba models now come with a warranty and a guarantee.

Apparently toshiba are so confident in there products if it breaks under warranty they repair it and pay you back what the laptop cost.

4 year old laptop, you can bet its not under warrenty

depending on where you live, just do a search or go to your local computer repair shop.

Lapzone.com is where alot of our LCD/parts come from cause their a state away
