Kick pedal for Guitar Hero World Tour

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if it is possible to use a proper kick pedal from an electronic drum kit on the Guitar Hero World Tour kit.

I'm sick of the GHWT pedal. I'd prefer the RB1 pedal after it breaks in half. It's laid out so badly, and I don't understand how they made this monumental ****-up when the drum kit had insight from Travis Barker (Blink-182) and Stewart Copeland (The Police), two of the greatest drummers of our time!

Now, I have a feeling it is possible to use a standard e-drum pedal out of the box. The GHWT pedal uses piezoelectric sensors to register the hits, which I think is used on some real pedals. I've seen a mod where someone took the sensor from the GHWT pedal and managed to get it working on a proper acoustic kick pedal; he even got a broken practice pad to stick the sensor in to make it completely realistic. Unfortunately, modding is way out of my league.

I know about the Destroyer Pedal; they do a GHWT version, but there's two drawbacks: they won't ship the GHWT one to Europe, and even if they did ship to Europe, it would cost in total over ?100, which is miles too much just for a kick pedal.

So, are there any real e-drum kick pedals that can work with GHWT?

EDIT: BTW, budget-wise, if there are pedals out there, my maximum budget would be probably ?40.

You can buy a normal kick pedal, take the beater off and hook it up with an always-closed alarm sensor or something, doesn't cost much but you need to bodge some DIY together.

I imported a Rock Pedal from the States, and sure it wasn't cheap, but it's a sweet pedal, and SO much better than the stock one, or anything I could make :p

No Joe, you can't use that method with the GHWT kit. The RB pedal uses a magnetic switch, but the GHWT uses a piezoelectric sensor. And a RB pedal will not work on a GHWT kit; I've tried.

Is there really that much point in spending money on a peripheral, at least a kick pedal, honestly?

I understand the enjoyment and fun there is playing RB/GH games, but there comes a point when you are buying smoke machines and lights or ??? on instruments on it that it becomes excessive.

What's so bad about the GHWT pedal?

It's so cheap and has no ''force back'' like the Rock Band pedal is my main gripe with it.

My friend takes it seriously, he was going to purchase a destroyer pedal before he realised Metallica had double bass, so just claimed warranty on the pedal and got a free one.

He's only taking the drumming seriously as he's planning on buying a real drum kit, so yeah...

Hit the nail on the head, Brad.

Other problems with it are the layout. This image shows what it's like:

The left one is sort of how a real pedal would be laid out, then on the right is how the GHWT pedal is laid out, but a lot less practical. Also, the circular section you step on is very cheap, which is the biggest problem and the main cause of what's wrong with the pedals. The pedal will cave in the circular bit eventually, and then it messes up your game. In my case, it registers a hit when I step on it, but also sometimes when I lift off the pedal.

In that case do a warranty claim off the RedOctane website, the replacement item come in about 3-4 days :p

I've done that about 8 times now. :p

I've found something interesting though: the Roadie Kick Rocker. $70 plus $65 international shipping, costs around ?85. It's still pricey, but it's cheaper than the Destroyer Pedal, they ship over here, and it looks a lot more sturdy, and it comes with a drum pad:

It also has legs to stop it from moving!:)) I think I might bite the bullet and get it later on this year. My birthday's coming up in August, so I might go for it.

Hell, if you're going to spend ?85 on a real metal, fake plastic rock item, then just go ahead and get the real thing. The Rock Pedal will soon have an adapter for World Tour, and failing that the Destroyer with Pad is only like, ?15 more than that, and it's a much better pedal. I did a lot of looking before I got my rock pedal, and I saw some dubious stuff about the Roadie Kicker.

All the Destroyer-related products aren't shipped to Europe. They ship to America, Canada, and Mexico only. Also, they're charging $80 for a Destroyer pad for GHWT; just the pad. With the Roadie, you get the pad AND a pedal for $10 less, plus they WILL ship to Europe.

What have you seen about the Roadie? I looked at the review on Cena's Corner and he was pretty positive about it. The only negative thing he said about it is pretty much what he says about most of the products: only buy them if you're serious about inproving your game. And I am. I had a couple of sessions on Rock Band yesterday with the drums, and I did pretty good; I even FC'ed a song ("Here It Goes Again")! :) But as usual, the pedal was my achilles heel, because it kept moving all over the place. It never stays in the same place unless you heel-toe, and I can't do that on fast sections.
