k311
i am trying this and it looks nice but when i go to compose a message firefox always asks me to enter my gmail password, which is odd considering it's not a problem with any of my other google account stuff nevermind i see that someone just asked the same question Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591760924 Share on other sites
Janzomaster
Hi, I just installed the app and was wondering if the app could be used to set gmail as the email handler in windows. I read some other google notifier could do that. And I got the same problem as k311, when going through the app to write a new mail, I need to login, even though in another tab I'm already logged in to gmail. Randor244
What would solve the problem for me would be if the application would simply open the following url:http://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=sv&shva=1#inbox Yes, that's what I meant I'll try to have a new version for that this week. Problem is being FIXED guys - read the thread :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591762106 Share on other sites
riven213
I don't know if it's already been posted here, but: DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM. My friend noticed that the Gmail notifier displays the actual PASSWORD in the link it uses to connect to gmail. I mean, how stupid is that? Everyone can see your password by simply looking at the address bar. Not to mention the potential for sniffing etc. It's a good thing he noticed that because I didn't pay attention. daty2k1
Well actually I realized it's not gonna be that simple because if you have several accounts, the cookie will only work for one. So if you have set the cookie for one account and you try to open a mail for another one, you will still end up in the inbox for the 1st one :( Don't really know what to do now. Damn you google and your unexpected updates :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591762510 Share on other sites

Agreed - though right now this auto-open feature does not work at all, so why use it until the update has arrived? ;) EDIT: Well actually I realized it's not gonna be that simple because if you have several accounts, the cookie will only work for one. daty2k1
Also it doesn't look like the screenshot above because so many people complained about this look... Anyway, I'm really starting to think I never should have released it :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591762526 Share on other sites
callummr
To all those claiming this app is so terribly dangerous, why do you think it opens an HTTPS URL? Because that makes it secure. Kinda like I already explained in this thread but you didn't actually bother to read. Well done. And to the guy asking why his didn't show the actual mail preview, you've disabled Aero. Enable it like you have to do for any program to show thumbnails. daty2k1
Yep, I suppose it should still be possible using their method. It would also probably make it work for IE and Opera. battyBoo
hi daty2k1, first thank you for this wonderful tool !! I found a small bug: in win7, if i have the GmailNotifier in the taskbar (example) on position nr. 1 and press win+1 to mark it as active (after start), then press win+UpArrow to maximize window i get a full white screen with the gmail notifier logo in the top left corner. I add a picture for a better explanation... It's not bad, but I wanted to mention it :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591764236 Share on other sites

Keep up the good work, sir! :D I agree. There will always be some people who don't like a persons work. That's just how the world goes. I think it's a great app with a lot of room to grow into an even better app. Everyone I know loves it and says it's a necessity for Win7, if you have Gmail. tehmemories
Here's another suggestion: When an email is received, have the button flash (like an instant message) until clicked. Ultima684
If you're still wondering about how you can get the app to login to each account on demand, there is a way but it involves using forms instead of your original method of URLs. Somehow, make a form with the appropriate bits needed entered into it (name, password, etc etc). Submit the form, and capture the information being sent. Then, redirect that information to the users browser of choice, and it should log them in! I'll have a hunt around for a test form I made for doing so, and I'll post the code up if I remember! Blazar
Gotta one sugestion: it could be great to check for new mail by clicking on active taskbar icon instead of jump-list option or to leave both of them :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591766566 Share on other sites
Ramon Smits
When I connect to my computer via RDP in a lower color mode then Gmail Notifier throws a .net exception. In non aero desktops you get a very small 'preview' box which does not really preview anything except the application title. Also, the left click does not do anything. It would be nice if that would open the first/default gmail account. daty2k1
Well for anything that's related to the taskbar button, it's been asked a few times and I really wanted to have these things in there from the beginning but there's just no way to do it in .Net. Well, sure you can make the button flash but you can't make it stop :D Edit: Also, left click does something if you have multiple accounts: it shows the previews :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591766756 Share on other sites
Calum Veteran Posted October 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted October 28, 2009 [...]Well, sure you can make the button flash but you can't make it stop :D [...] Oh, does it not stop as soon as the taskbar button is clicked? :/ If not, that's an oversight on Microsoft's part I would think. How about my suggestion in this post? :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/777838-rel-gmail-notifier-plus-for-windows-7/page/24/#findComment-591766972 Share on other sites

rckymtnrfc
Just grabbed the updated version, I was still way back on 1.2. Love the app, looks great but I have a question and a suggestion. My question is, when I use the jump menu to Go to my Inbox or Compose...I'm always prompted by Google for my password. Is this normal? It didn't do that before. My suggestion....since I'm an avid Google product user....have you ever considered adding support for other Google products. Personally I'd love to see Google Voice, Wave and Reader added. Just a suggestion, love the work and thank you for sharing it with everyone!
