I just installed the latest version of GN+ on W7U and though installed and everything is there, it isn't working. There is unopened mail in my Gmail Inbox that doesn't show on the GN+ taskbar icon or in Go To Your Inbox or Check Mail. I un and reinstalled to be sure it did so correctly but no change.

Any ideas what the problem might be? I'd really like to have this feature.

Thanks!

This is a great program, and very useful, but I've also got the same concerns about security/usability. It is very, VERY bad to send a password using GET (encoded in the URL). Once I realized that that's what the notifier was doing, I changed my password for my google account (which was disappointing, as I prefer not to change my passwords if I can help it).

There are a few ways to fix this, first of which would be https. Just making an https call instead of http will mean that the browser encrypts everything in the request but the host name, which includes the GET info. Also, something you should probably do anyway, is to just put the username in the URL, not the password. Mostly because it isn't auto-logging in anyway, so there's no point in being less secure for the same functionality.

Finally, I only use one gmail account (well, I have my other accounts forwarded to the same one), so it would be nice to include an option to just use the basic URL and let the browser use a cookie if it's available. The main reason is, well... again, it doesn't work as it is now, for single or multiple-account users. At least if you used a regular URL, without the login information, it would work for those of us that don't need it to try to switch accounts.

Sorry if I missed the solution for this but I also don't see a blue indicator for new mail. I see the white letter indicator. I'm running ver 2.1.

Also, what is the uninstall routine for this app? And where is configuration for it stored (gmail account info)?

Great app by the way - thanks.

This does not work across Office firewalls i.e. the place where I work. Is it possible to add proxy support please? Coz infact Office is the place where I need it most. At home, I have all my Gmail accounts open anyways.

But I really love the way this has been implemented. Excellent use of Taskbar.

*Sigh* read the thread.

It's not supposed to be blue anymore.

You never installed the app, why would you uninstall nothing? You just delete the file from wherever you put it.

I would guess that app data is stored internally, but don't quote me on that.

Edit: App data is in AppData\Roaming. Just go to %appdata% and it's there.

Maybe that's why it is https.

And as the dev has stated, he's working on fixing auto-login.

Umm. My point was that at the time of your posting, it already used that. In fact it's always used https when submitting the password in the URL as far as I'm aware.

Well, I'm just glad my suggestion was taken to heart so quickly. It gives me a lot of faith in the developer!

I am having a problem with it, and maybe it's just me, but the icon is staying "pressed" is there any way to remove that so it fit's like the others that aren't being used?

Also when I click on the icon, it looks like it is trying to load something but doesn't.

And I am having the same problem as Jusu;an about typing the password every time I open the "Go to your inbox" button.

It looks to me like it's just the "running" icon. To make that flat again, you have to stop the program, which would mean no notification. It's just running in the background, since it's supposed to be a jump-list program, which means no window (unless of course you open the settings window).

This problem has been reported many, many times already, and the developer has stated he's working on it.

first thanks

could you like make it register the mailto: protocoll in windows 7? that has been the main reason I actually found this app and now it dosn't even feature it :/

except for that it is great

sending the login data as a xhtml formencoded post request instead of a get request shouldn't be that hard to code but I don't how pr if google supports different kinds of auto login though I know it is possbile but that ain't news to anyone

but as I only use 1 gmail account ... just working without auto login would work for me becaus I cookie login automatically anyway

and next is I get the sounds when my mail arrives but I don't get any visible notification :(

when I hover it the preview works fine

and.... last is there a way to make it not appear in my alt+tab and win+tab screen? although I think this is hardly possible (winamp has the same problem if you hide all windows)

all in all I think maybe it is more practical to have a system tray notifier ... visual notification should be easier you dont have that button is not flat issue and not that alt+tab or even the maximize with windows+up problems

Just wanted to say thanks to the creator of this. It's something that's really needed for Windows 7 users who have Gmail, since Google's original Notifier doesn't seem to work with it (although Google Talk does as a less than ideal workaround).

I just installed Windows 7 last night, and what I really loved about the original Gmail Notifier was that a simple double-click of the icon in the system tray notification area would open my inbox in a new tab (or show the open tab if it was already being used).

It would be ideal for me if a left click on the GN+ icon on the taskbar would do this (I just have one Gmail account), but I can see the difficulty of making it work seeing as the application is already running (mostly invisibly) in the background and this would merely activate what is already there (invisible). I'm sure there must be a way to do it somehow (and I know there's a little button for the inbox on the popup email preview thing when you hover on the taskbar icon, but it would be good if there was a way to bring up the inbox quicker).

For now I use GN+ to let me know when I have new email and use a desktop shortcut pointing to https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox to access my inbox. A similar thing could be achieved with a combination of Talk and the shortcut, but Talk as an IM program has no "Appear Offline" setting.

Not ideal, I know, but the shortcut is a solution (for now) where you don't have to put in your password to get to your inbox everytime...

Thanks again to the developer - I look forward to the improved versions in the future.

Great App! I really like it. But 2 important things that need to be changed/added:

1. When I right click the Notifier in the Taskbar and go for "write an email" then it is extremely annoying that I have to reenter the PW everytime, even though Chrome does usually save my PW's and cookies are on. Is it possible to change that?

2. An absolute must-have is the MailTo-Protocol as s1r10n already mentioned! That is really the reason why I would use this program!

But thanks anyway for your work so far!

Very good application, just a pity it does not show the number of unread messages on the icon in the taskbar when it is small and does not appear a popup with a preview of the email with the corresponding e-mail box and who sent the email.

Do not have a button to mark read mail that has been read and a button to delete the mail. The rest is very good!
