Great app.

My ONLY issue at this stage, is that it opens gmail.

I use Google Apps and I tried it with my account details, it reads the emails and shows properlly. But when I try to open Gmail or an email from your app then it tries going direct to google.

An idea is to maybe have the code check for a @gmail username and if it isn't use the google apps via the domain in the username settings.

Three suggestions.

1. It would be cool if the application allowed the user to point to a *.wav file in the settings when new mail is found. It's nice to hear when you have new mail because you're not always sitting at the desktop/laptop.

2. I've been using the Gmail notifier that is built inside of Digsby. It has the following features (see image below) when previewing new mail (mark as read / archive / delete / report spam). It would be great if these features were added to the application thumbnail.

3. The thumbnail background has a black background with black text and white glow. Wouldn't it be more legible with a white background and black text?

Anyhow, well done. I may drop Digsby (I only use it for its Gmail notifier) for this application.

>> Strange, it opens in a new tab for me. What browser are you using?

Sorry, maybe I did not make that clear enoug: it DOES in a new tab all right. But it does that every time. I was asking to PREVENT opening a new tab when a gmail tab is already opened. Otherwise I end up with multiple gmail tabs.

Wow I love this! I was just thinking the other day that the Gmail Notifier was a little outdated... It would be nicer if it would open Gmail in the default browser when you click the taskbar button.... I know you can see the emails, and open the inbox with the little icon, but for the sake of convenience... Also when you have no mail, and there is the big icon with your account name under it. It would be nice if clicking that would also open Gmail in the default browser.

I also agree with iShakeel above :)

After a while the jump menu stopped working for me :( I just get the 3 basic task bar options.

No Google apps mail support.

Short sighted!

Man stfu :spam:

It's been mentioned several times already that this would be a nice feature and the daty2k1 has responded as to why there is no google apps support. There is no need to flame him.

Since there have been a lot of request, I will add support for Google Apps in the next version :) I should have an account soon so I can test it properly. I will probably add options for sound and taskbar flashing as well.

Multiple account support is a different story. I've got a prototype running but I'm not happy with two things:

- Overlay icon: they are specific to each window so it means that if you have grouping enabled, you will only see one counter.

- Jump lists: how should it display unread messages in the jump list if you have grouping enabled? Should it display messages from all accounts grouped together? I don't really want the jump list to become a mess :(

Ah I see. The thing is that it would be quite difficult to do. I would have to be able to "control" whichever browser you are using and detect if a tab is already open :(

Great little app. Nice work.

One suggestion though. It appears as first app in ALT-TAB window always. Since it doesn't have any windows associated, I think there shouldn't be any presence of this at all in the ALT-TAB window.

A few people also suggested this. The problem is that as long as the application is visible in the taskbar, it will be visible in alt-tab.

I really wanted to have the two features you are suggesting since I started building this application. Unfortunately, I haven't found any reliable way to do it at the moment in .NET. When I tried to add it, it was sometime opening Gmail even if you didn't click the icon which is really annoying :D If anyone knows a proper way to do that, I'll gladly add it back.

Then may be at least it can drop down in the list. It stays stuck at the first place in the ALT-TAB window and looks quite odd when you press alt-tab and the current window is second instead of first and selected window is third instead of second.

Thanks for the reply.

Ah yes, I didn't see that. I'll see what I can do :)

Edit: Actually, I just noticed that the Sticky Notes app is visible in the taskbar but not in win-tab so it should be possible. Now I just need to figure out how they're doing that :D

Great app and great enthusiasm from the author, well done!

If following updates carry on with this enthusiasm then should have an even better little app here.

Again well done and many thanks, will feedback more when i have been using it more :punk:

i'm having a problem using this app at work.

all i get is the 'please check your account settings' error with the yellow exclamation logo.

does this app use a specific domain or port that maybe blocked in my work place? because i regularly have problems accessing desktop applications that use the internet... i even have 'no internet access' and yellow exclamation on my network icon, but i do have access...

It is using the secured Gmail RSS feed so it should be port 443. Try to access it directly from Firefox to see if it work?

this works fine directly from firefox.

in internet explorer it asks me for my googlemail.com cresidentials, when i enter them i get a page of xml code.

confusing, but i'm guessing it's something to do with the server in my workplace... why can i access it in a browser and not the software?

maybe you could include 'network settings' in future versions? for proxy and stuff?
