Just a guess but I would look for Apple to release Quicktime 10 for Windows around November 2009!

I'm not sure it is QT 10, after all QT is at major version 7 and not 9... they just want the player to have a version number matching OS X.

if you watch the WWDC keynote they verbally said the word Quicktime TEN, and not a verbal Quicktime X (ECKS)

also i have the WWDC09 10a380 preview of leopard and the version numbers do say Quicktime 10.0

maybe they just bumped the number but what else are we going to call it? if thats the official version number?

It's not uncommon for major software releases to have skipped version numbers. Microsoft does it quite often. (I believe the Installer application once jumped from 2.0 to 6.0 or something like that.)

Anyway, QuickTime X will be finalized in September, when Snow Leopard is released. Chances are good it will be ported to Tiger, Leopard and Windows.

They might, or they might just update the current version (really QuickTime X is just the shift from Carbon to Cocoa, which has no impact on Windows)

It doesn't sound like so small an update as that. They're touting a more major rewrite than that, insofar as it's supposed to have been optimized for modern playback and the like, not merely a port to Cocoa. But it will be interesting to see exactly what makes it into the Windows version, since as it stands now it can take video captures of your screen.

I could be totally wrong so take this with a grain of salt, but my feeling is QuickTime X will remain Mac exclusive and Apple will simply update the PC version to support some of the new features and I also get a feeling Apple will continue to have a paid for Pro version for Windows (while scrapping that completely for Mac). Considering Apple give away the iPhone OS updates for "free" to iPhone users and charge iPod Touch owners I wouldn't be surprised if they start this approach with QuickTime (i.e. give away the pro features for "free" for Mac users while charge Windows users). However, as I stated in the beginning I could be totally wrong, just a gut feeling on this that has no basis or evidence what so ever, so take it how you will!

It looks like Quicktime X will not be coming to Windows!

wahahaha, i guess the jokes on you then, gate1975mlm. :D

apple wasn't gonna release a "quicktime x" for windows anyway so why bother

Windows 7 supports the Quicktime Movie (.MOV) wrapper natively, but does not necessarily play all Quicktime movies.

yup, especially certain QT movie files using some complex QT formats that don't work in Win7 alone and require the Quicktime player to view them.
