CAS suspend Chelsea transfer ban over appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has granted Chelsea's request to suspend their transfer ban pending a final decision regarding their case.

Chelsea were initially handed a FIFA ban over the next two transfer windows after they were found guilty of inducing French teenager Gael Kakuta to breach his contract with Lens in 2007, but the Blues appealed to CAS against the punishment and, as part of their appeal, requested the transfer ban be 'stayed' until the case had been dealt with.

Now the appeals body have given the London club a lifeline which will allow them to sign players again in January if the final decision is not taken before then.

A statement on the CAS website read: ''The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has granted the request for a stay filed by Chelsea Football Club Ltd and Mr Ga?l Kakuta in relation to the decision taken by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber on 27 August 2009.

''The FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber imposed, inter alia, a restriction of four months' ineligibility on Mr Ga?l Kakuta, and Chelsea Football Club Ltd was banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the next two complete, consecutive registration periods. Such sanctions are now stayed until the CAS renders its final decision in this matter.''

looks like they're gonna try to buy as many players as possible in this transfer window (?)

I wonder how much bling changed hands there nearly as much as the Puruveian economy received during the 1978 world cup.

The appeal could be dragged out for a few years.

Chelsea by then would have purchased every professional football player on this planet and they will be the only team.

They will win the fa cup, league cup, european cup, league and world cup, infact those other small trophies that the smaller clubs also enter.

Chelsea should be docked 50 points.

They can have a derby match with Luton Town.

We have enf money to buy almost anyone.. we need some players for the bench and possibly a DM.. although Song is really coming through this year.. offensively we are set for atleast next 5 years (if the squad remains as it is).. I hope we don't have to sell the club to Kroenke.. especially as I see him as someone who is not a club fan and for them it will just be business.. which can be disastrous

We're gonna miss Song when he goes to Africa. Need to bring someone in on loan atleast

yeah you know they will cover the positions they need to fill but if they are found guilty then what happens do their purchases in the jan window be investigated?

I doubt it, I think they'll buy players who are good and in the 25-27 age group and get contract extensions for whoever is important. So far their squad is very intimidating and it's deep also.

I would. They've appealed for a reason and I think they're looking to buy Sergio Aguero (he's been linked with them heavily in the recent past).

Another win for us :D Will be hoping for a draw between Utd and Scum tomorrow.. that will mean winning the next match would take us top of the league..

Nah Chelsea will win, Man Utd have an atrocious record against the top clubs just now. The main reason the one the league last year is the other top contenders, Chelsea/Liverpool, kept screwing up against the smaller clubs.

Plus Chelsea are playing on a massive high right now.

I'm not sure about tommorow, personally I think it will be a 0-0. I think it's pretty much assured that Fergie will put out a 4-5-1 and hopefully Fletch will play in the middle, and it if everything goes right we could pull out a result like we have done away in Europe for the past few years.

Not a bad performance from United, I thought it would be a goal glut against them with Vidic/Ferdinand out. Goal was unlucky, a little bit of hussling by Drogba. Put it this way it wasn't a masterpiece of a goal, teams were playing too even for any rip the defence apart goals.

Referee decisions were really poor all throughout the game, ref cracked under the pressure of the match IMO.

January transfer window needs a technical midfielder, we're struggling so badly in midfield for someone with skill and shooting ability. The amount of times Giggs/Anderson should of whacked one goal wards but tried to layoff to someone else was mind boggling. Anderson frequently lacks confidence, but I don't know what Giggs was playing at.

Well done Chelsea.

Terrible ref and definitely no well done Chelsea. That goal should've been disallowed. Lampard's hand ball, Rooney's onside run are just a few examples of how the ref really screwed up the game BAD.

I'm losing patience with Valencia. His decision making has been awful all season. Obertan has looked really good the last two games though.

I'd love to get rid of Valencia/Anderson/Nani in January and replace them with seasoned and experienced players. Nani is regressing, Anderson is too inconsistent (he can boss Fabregas out of a game then a week later be virtually anonymous!) and Valencia looks lost.
